Show american legion notes the past commanders of the local post ot of the american legion staged a smoker st at the athenaeum hall on the evening of january the attendance was the largest the park city post lias has had for many years there being one hundred and lifty fifty legionnaires and their guests present the department president les bleckner blackner department adjutant tant otto and department fin aln l anco ance officer L J farrer fairer were pres present tile the district commander allis allason 0 n bills and his h is vice commander C E rafferty together with a large delegation from mr bills own jordan post also attended mr air roy shillings commander ot of the bingham post headed a delegation of 0 twenty five members from rom our neighboring and famous mining town A large delegation from kamas hamas and other ot of the weber valley district vre aang our most honored Ji visitors asber city sent many ot of our old time friends ord buddies every one had a t C splendid time and before de gave gc ave three che cheers ars to the post past commanders of the park city post tor for a successful entertainment the program consisted of a short history of the park city post by the adjutant jim cunningham recited his humorous ditty about mr air murphys Murp hys pants biff billings billinge represented ed winn and ken kell brierley represented graham in a presentation sen tation of new and original gags and ree received elved thunderous applause for their efforts between the acts the jacobs orchestra played many old time melodies later the boys with their ten gallon hats appeared on oil the cne c ne and the legionnaires danced to the ranch music mr keith buck was the master of ceremonies the department commander addressed the rn eteng stressing the necessity of membership in n the legions Lc eions tour four point program to lio be put over the commander stated that to date the membership Is running a head ahead of last year and urged that ever every y ex service man get behind the legion and put over this moderate and conservative program ted littlefield director of the veteran hospital gave useful information about hospital matters which effect all ex service men the department adjutant spoke on the subject of I 1 tion he also called the attention ot of the men present that according to law the i ex service man with dependents has a al preference in government jobs this Is I 1 especially true in the and the activities and if this preference Is not shown by the local committees they are operating contrary to the law he urged that the unemployed ex service men with dependents and out ot of employment register and make themselves known and demand their rights under the law adjutant reported on the progress made with the legions four point bill which has now been introduced in both houses of congress the legion Is going to push this bill through to a successful conclusion before the year 1 1934 34 makes its exit the president has already by executive ta order put into effect some of execl the legions F ia programs and has been for the most part sympathetic the legion disagrees with the president when be maintains that the care ot of the down and out ex service men Is the obligations ot of the local communities the legion maintains bains that the cost of their care Is a part of the cost ot of war that they were drafted into the U S army and sent to war by the federal government and that their care Is a federal obligation |
