eighteenth te n th amendment because I 1 believe from my experience as a law enforcement officer that the prohibition law has not been a success I 1 believe that temperance is IB a matter ot of education and should be handled by that method rather than by legal procedure I 1 think conditions under the eighteenth amendment have led to demoralization of our youth and a general disrespect tor for law and order I 1 a a a mayor welsh says 1 I believe bellat in voting n 1 1 for or the i repeal ot of the amendment amendment amend met t na and the amendment to the state con constitution in regard to raising the alcoholic vi L content 0 of liquors lor for several reasons the federal prohibition law has been a failure and has lead to increase in crime graft and general disrespect for law and order the country state and city will benefit by a change in the laws in that it will lead to increased revenue tor for municipal state and national government and consequently to reduce taxes I 1 1 the question to not one of whether cr not we are in favor of temperance as most in st people are but whether we have found the proper method of promoting temperance in the present law I 1 think that the prohibition laws have led to increased drinking and that their repeal will lead to better control of the liquor traffic i JOHN F WELSH mayor I 1 |
