Show commencement men cement at P r th C C ghigli fa h school 1 for the thirty second time in the analil i annals of 1 I 1 the ile palk paik city high school the I 1 senior students thrilled to the knowledge that tonight Is 13 my graduation night forty eight students the largest class in the history of the school lovely charming girls and handsome courteous fellows as they marched into the crowded auditorium knew and rejoiced that they had worked consistently that the diplomas they recoiled received were a symbol of something well done when the girls of the class of 33 as an opening number sang at parting a wistful sadness surged through the hearts of the graduates not even the beautiful frocks that were so like a flower garden could make the class forget that this night was a farewell to a happy phase of their youth 1 john C green as salutatorian welcomed the audience he spoke on public educational institutions convincing his hearers of the advisability of spending money to educate raw uncouth youth and transforming it into intelligent worthwhile citizenship one marvelled marvellee marvel led at the ease and brillante bril lance with which this very young man spoke he himself was ample proof of the value of the educational institutions which he acclaimed the cornet comet solo played by ruth sanger a graduate evidenced the versatility of the park high school curriculum and the splendid instruction to be received front from the school poster A jones the honor student ot of this group of intelligent american boys aar and A girls gave a speech that would have done credit to a much older graduating class in his valedictory address fos foster ter spoke with force and conviction on education in general he advanced some fine thoughts in his speech and he delivered it in a compelling manner the high school orchestra played an overture youth triumphant and the audience was convinced of the absolute necessity of such an organization as aa the music played blended so beautifully with the program music on an occasion like that Is an essential and it seems more beautiful to the park city people when it Is being rendered by their own boys and girls the address to the graduates was presented by judge roger I 1 mcdonough judge mcdonough is a graduate of the park city high school and we are proud of the success he has achieved in the world he Is now judge of the third district court and he Is an inspiration to the students of park high of what one can do it if one Is determined judge mcdonough talked to the graduates of the heritage that would be handed to them by their forefathers fore fathers and their duty to protect and preserve it submitting to theli their children a bigger and greater civilization than they had received he spoke of the predominant characteristics essential to success cle determination termination and self confidence the next number on the program was it a double quartet quartel composed or of zul zula clegg ella don dan lavina jackson anna levey ada olsen leah parrish ruth sanger and amy springer the song rendered by these graduate girls was passing all musical numbers were under the direction of mr byron jones the elks scholarship trophy was presented by exalted ruler george sykes to dasil A smith jr president of the freshman class this Is the first time in the history of the cup that it has gone to a freshman class making it possible tor for the cup to become a perm permanent an possession of the class of 36 mr air sykes expressed the hope pe in n behalf of the elks club that the class would work hard enough to obtain the cup presentation of student body awards was accomplished by superintendent howard V alston with john C green r student body president assisting the individual scholarship awards were presented in the same manner tho the climax of the exercises was the presentation of diplomas by president jerome paxton As each graduate received his diploma marching sedately across tho the stage we looked into the future and saw them as worthwhile worth while citizens making america the greatest and best place in the world to live and be happy our applause of each student as he received Us diploma was EL a toast to american youth and the hope that every boy and girl in america was as fundamentally sound as those forty eight students who composed the thirty second graduating graduation 9 class of the park city high school E M |
