annual trip to logan to compete in the state band contest to be held there april and it if there Is anyone interested in staying over night they may do so without expense by notifying the committee they will be housed either with the girls in the girls gymnasium of the college or with the boys in the boys gymnasium it if you wish to make this arrangement notify the committee so they will be able to ascertain the number of cots necessary and also bring your own blanket and pillow anyone wishing to do so may eat with the band at the college cafeteria on the campus tor for twenty five cents a meal it if you plan to eat with the band again the committee wishes s to be informed the committee consisting of george archer president of the parents and teachers association lapage howard V alston jerome paxton george cunningham george dark clark president of the park city high alumni jack green president of the park city high school band and byron D jones director of the band has outlined the following program I 1 the solo and ensemble con contestants ts will leave tor for logan thursday april to compete on that evening for solo awards there are some fifteen students from park city who aho plan to take part in these contests from the splendid playing these soloists did at the last parent teachers association meeting we people of park city have much confidence in the results its they will achieve the transportation for the band Is being donated by the people of perk park city and Is under the super supervision ilmon of the above named committee it if there are any citizens of park city who are planning to go to logan tor for the state contest the committee Is very desirous of obtaining the information so that every individual will be on the official list there Is a prize offered to the band whose where town has the largest number of representatives representative S and to those th Os e who have traveled the greatest distance the park city band would like to take this award as it would make more evident the interest and support that park cites people give to the band anyone not on the list will inform george archer or lepage lapage at the present there are forty cars listed and they are to report at a in friday april on park avenue directly opposite the high school each car will receive a number the caravan w will ill go 90 through salt lake city and ogden there will be a police escort to take the caravan carava through both cities r so there will 11 be no need tor for stopping tor for braf traffic ii c sign signals al a this was one of the memorable thrills of last years travelers they thought it a very pleasing sensation to have the right to ignore red lights there will be a brief stop at the weber college in ogden and then the caravan will continue uninterrupted to logan the band and orchestra contests will be held friday april at the U AO AC A O in the auditorium on the same evening there will be a special contest lor for bands playing the thrilling march number the stars and stripes forever by sousa the great march king this Is one of his most stirring marches and being 1 played in his honor because he be did I 1 so much for music in america and was one of his real claims to musical famed fame this contest will take place in the logan I 1 tabernacle mr rosebrook Rosc brook of san francisco the sole judge of the band contests will play several cornet solos mr I 1 rosebrook Is a world famed comet player and a composer of renown he judged the contests last year and has judged cientos ol 01 0 this nature in every section or of the united states the award to the solo winners and to the bands and orchestras tor for the their I 1 r co concert n c e r t w work ork will be presented it at this same time saturday april at 1000 a m one ot of the most spectacular events of the I 1 entire program will take place this Is i the parading and maneuvering of the various bands A grand parade of all I 1 the contesting bands will open the festivities tivi ties then each individual band will maneuver before the judges for the judging to see who will receive the marching award the quick regular steps of the nitin members bers the colorful uniforms the jaunty drum majors and the s maneuvering of the bands will make this event alone worth the trip to logan after the marching the judges will sum up the entire number of points won by each band for concert work solo work ensemble numbers parade stars and stripes forever contest the number of representatives from the towns and the distance they traveled to award the grand sweepstake prize this Is the third year for park high band in tho the C division and we are I 1 hoping it Is the last and that the cup will become a permanent possession or of ao 0 par city high school many people have wondered why our band should be placed in the lowest division when it Is such a large band the bands are however classified according to the number of students attending the school and not according to the size and playing ability of the band this classification is as follows schools having less than students are enrolled in the C division class B consists of bands from schools having from to students bands from schools having an enrollment of oer are placed in the A division it if however a band takes first place in a division tor for three successive years they are arc advanced to the next higher division the people ot of park city are justly proud of the band and readily realize that much credit Is due mr jones the i director for the achievements of this organization ga niza tion when mr jones first took his position as music instructor in the park city high school there were only nine ine members in the ban band d and in the in last t three laree years the band has increased from that small number to a membership of nearly a hundred students the first year under mr air jones jonee instruction the band membership increased to forty members uniforms for these students were obtained by the efforts of the band and its leader and third place was cap captured in the state contest held at ae the university of utah in salt lake city the summer band work was started and was largely responsible for keeping the students interested in the work and in holding the band together the following year the band membership increased to seventy and they took first place in the C division in salt lake last year over ninety members went to logan and again took first place such i improvement Is remarkable and the band members school people of park city are happy that they have such a competent music instructor as mr jones mr jones the band members ai and d th the committee appreciate the support tia they e have received from the people of park city such loyalty is a strong incentive for the band to again take first pa place ce i in the contest so far arrangements have I 1 been made to take two hundred people I 1 to logan E M I 1 I 1 f |
