Show stones of odd shapes relics of bygone race three curious pieces of stone I 1 which may easy possibly be relies relics of an ancient people form part of a ro turn new zealand collection two of the pieces one of which la is almost nn an exact miniature of the other are shaped almost like solid pitchers they are rounded as if turned on a potters wheel and although they cannot have been devised as vessels ies sels appear lo 10 to have been fashioned by some human agency both pieces are a species of sandstone and were found by mr air kenn in the district at the bottom of deep outcrops of river metal between 33 35 and 40 feet below the surface the third piece is petrified wood weighing sev cral pounds on both end are cuts which have obviously been made with a species of ax this piece was found with tho the larger of the two pestles and from the depth at which it was found folind must have been buried for a very long period of time |
