heavy coast train and the lateness thereof in reaching provo it gave akie the party that much longer to visit with those who were at the train to say goodbye and wish god speed to those going away 4 friday the dawned clear and bright with the train nearing los vagas arriving there on time the unlucky day brought no mishaps whatever just lust bright sunshine and blistering heat beat dad was up with the rest of the party and joined them at breakfast in the dining car he was glad of assistance however lo wever back to his bis car ride the morning ride was quite pleasant but in the afternoon the stateroom occupied cu pled by the party being on the right hand side of the train going southwest got the direct rays of the hot sun and it was a bit difficult to keep cool but with electric tans fans buzzing windows and doors door s open breathing was possible and a good time enjoyed the east side los angeles station was reached at 5 p in dr lawrence was waiting at the station with his automobile to ded was a bit tired from the nde and by the time the doctors home was reached he was pretty well a wreck but with ginger ale as a artim blant and an hour or so rest he be was back bach to normal the alhambra section of california looks good feels good and Is going to do good to the sick man after a a m month ill or two of breathing the ra rarefied air lin and enjoying the health giving sunshine which one seldom sees beasi because of the ocean midst modifying modi fing its direct rays it is s felt arid and invigorates just the same sunday a happy visit was enjoyed from mr and mrs airs W A former and still beloved long time residents a of f park city it was good to see them and chat with them they are wit well and happy and report misses chloe barabel arabelle wilma and rhoda lou as is likewise the three latter employed at different vocations and the for former mer as cheer cheerful fulI i and inspiring as always tile the other two daughters zoo ann and ella now nap hap married are prosperous and enjoying 1 life to the fullest each with a handsome babe all these bagdons live in los angeles the big alhambra and los angeles evening papers were dropped like hot potatoes upon the homecoming home coming ot of dr haddon last evening with the park record the city papers have the pages the startling headlines the pictures ana various departments but the home paper has the home news arid and to an absent sent home towner Is both food and drink dad was much surprised to see himself elf featured on the front page but even ve n that did not detract in the least from the mighty interesting news items therein contained and from the first line on the first column of the first page to the last line of the float columns on the last page was waa read with interest and profit by the whole alhambra family then the advertisements advertisement were read and the business places adv advertising erts seen in the minds eye it Is a me newsy paper boys and heres praise fc for your efforts it is quite laughable now to think that dad once thought the record would not come out alit were he away from the desk for a week or two 0 we were mighty sorry the elements were so unkind to the knights of py last saturday night tho the visitation I 1 and parade and banquet would have P proved r oved ft a great benefit to this splendid f fraternal ra organization in former years park par lodge no 4 K of P wa was the banner lodge of the n state through adversities versi ties of one kind and another it has held its charter and within the past two years has increased its membership I 1 Is now in n a prosperous condition with I 1 a splendid personnel and it Is indeed too bad its proposed public demonstration should have been made a 0 failure by stormy weather dont despair boys but keep pushing ahead better luck next time 0 and next month the park city elks continued on page pour four f t idaus dacas column continued irom from page one will give a three day carnival it will be b a success as the elks doings always are 0 david orr who tor for more than six years ha has been making his home in los angeles called on dad yesterday he informed him he was in park city visiting his mother in july dad being batty at that time did not know of 0 his visit dave Is holding down a good job and Is in love with california A splendid offer has been made dave recently by a big idaho lumber concern which he Is considering california however has alluring attractions for david mont orr a brother Is engaged in sign writing and is doing well 0 yes dad Is still doing his writing in bed even so he prefers it to flying around in the upper regions reg lons with heavy wings and continual harp playing that in come to him later on any way that is if he dont make a misstep and tumble into hades in a letter received receive from joe cescel who spent his young manhood days in park city mining and milling the now talented story says to the me members abers of the cescel family away back heie in monroe new york it looks as it if the park will be a bigger mining district in fifty years from now than what hat it Is at the present time heres hoping that it Is and may it continue prosperous for hundreds of years once I 1 met a mining man in mexico who had studied the park city section and he told me that the biggest producers in his opinion yet been found I 1 dunno 0 maybe 1 abe they have but yet be been much e more than scratched lots of good country to be opened up at any rate the park seems to be less of a ghost camp now than it was in the days when the family made their home in good old park city dad and I 1 on the pay rolls of the big mining companies right you are joe old boy the present big producers will still be producing on a larger scale for the next neu fifty years and tn in addition to these there will b be e the star of utah with its great area c of f rich mineral bearing ground and tho the mayflower the park galena on the south routh and east sides rides the park city consolidated soli dated and queen eaher right in our back yard as it were all rolling ore out of their tunnels not yet cut through and raising ore from big hoisting plants not yet erected with the silver king western extension then a bigger producer than the now old timers with the new quincy at much greater depth still etall paying dividends the keystone in tho the dividend class and many east side properties now mere prospects with huge plants tents producing wealth the three kings perhaps out of the struggling class and likely hoisting plants employing hundreds on the now barren flats below town yes joe park cites future promises even greater wealth production than in its glorious past 0 it Is as hot as the hottest hottes t corner in death valley in alhambra Alb ambrOi and los angeles so far this week yesterday according to weather reports was the hottest day in the shade experienced in ten years we californians dont mind it however rather enjoy it however because we know the nights will be cool the heat health giving and climatic conditions generally simply wonderful next to park city anywhere in southern call forkla Is the place I 1 personal to dick squires your kind rei 1 gards and well wishes dick were rei re i 1 cc calved ived today glad your thoughts won d der e r to your old time pardner occasionally thanks of course you are arc as well and ind and strong and as active as ever I 1 11 rm still in bed because of orders from five different doctors A california doctor for being called in today to look me over said to keep off my feet yet day by day even though in a very small way I 1 am getting stronger and stronger arid and perhaps in a couple of months or so I 1 may be able to walk and run and lump jump despite my present weakness dick wei e you down here with your help we 1 would get to the beach somehow where we would see sot something worth seeing these hot days the best I 1 could do after getting there would be to quietly recline on the sands and look you would have to do the chasing just before leaving provo prove lor for alhambra a letter was received from a good southern california friend the letter saying in part 1 I congratulate you up on your partial recovery from what apparently ly was a very serious and trust that you will soon receive your well earned stake through some of the i present or prospective bonanzas that you have so loyally and persistently boosted and that you will then change the stroller column to one that I 1 hope you can contribute your weekly letter telling of the wonders and comforts to be enjoyed in one of the beauty spots which you noticed on your recent visit in california that was created for the reclining years of affluent retired newspaper men 0 thanks friend the column suggested as you will notice has already been started and nice things win will be said now and then of one of the beauty spots to wab which dad has retired temporarily the affluent part of the program Is not I 1 in n sight however and the same old vexatious problem of how best to make both ends meet exist in california as in good old utah they say that everything comes to him who waits and dad Is patiently waiting tor for some of the prospective bonanzas to materialize with absolute faith that they will some time even though it may be some time after his lamented departure I 1 1 talking about rich riches es and progress of los lo angeles listen to this betty compson the little woman we all like to see on the screen owns an entire block of ground in north hollywood upon which she Is now contemplating the erection of a tourist hotel I 1 with with acres of outside rooms why are we not all silver screen stars ask manager john rugar I 1 dr K R V barta accompanied by mrs barta and mrs stanley visited dad i two hours before the batters lat cle departure from provo for alhambra the doctor lust just wanted to look over the sick man and pronounced him in good condition considering his aliment predicting that in three months he would be back to normal health and strength in the lower altitude to hasten this complete recovery dr barta wrote a prescription which he said to have filled in los an geles an effort was made to have it fined filled at up to the minute drug stores in alhambra without success then los angeles was tried and not one of the drug stores of 0 that big city could ful fill the prescription necessitating a wire to be sent to dr barta to have it filled la in salt lake city which was done and lor warded by air mall to dad this will sound ridiculous and laughable at ty by many yet it la is an absolute fact alhambra cal sept 17 1929 |
