Show summit commissioners should do likewise reber heber city utah feb 11 1929 to the IS speaker and members rs ot of the house ii ouse ol 01 0 representatives reprise v es eighteenth latu legislate Legis legislature re of the state ot of utah gentlemen the people and commissioners ot of wasatch was atch county view with 9 arave rave concern the introduction ot of house bill no 71 by mr S M jorgenson which value mines lor for taxation purposes at six elx times their net proceeds feln in wasatch ent satch county between BO 50 and 55 per e cent of our tax income Is derived from rom mines we find that this amount divided by the number ot of men e engaged in this industry and their dependents yields a per capita revenue several times the average lor for the other ind industries us tries ot of the county we also find that the mining industry spends annually in this county for wages supplies etc several times the amount paid their stockholders in dividends moreover we have a number ol of promising mining enterprises in process ot of development which are financed by tho the sale ot of stock and we feel that such a measure as H B 13 no 71 will discourage investment in the greatest revenue producing industry of this county we respectfully submit to the representatives senta tives of your honorable body from counties which have no mines that by increasing mine taxation their counties will derive little if any benefit and we believe that it will be found that counties like wasatch which do have mines are opposed to increased mine taxation and believe that more benefits will result tor for their counties and tor for the state of utah by maintaining the present valuation schedule and the consequent expansion of the industry than can possibly be attained by such euch a tax valuation method as Is contemplated in H B no 71 which c h wl will I 1 make the state of utah with all its vast undeveloped mineral resources conspicuous by having the most drastic mine taxation laws of any state in the union sumner hatch P H hunt jesse nelson board of commissioners of wasatch county heber city utah february 11 1929 the above Is a timely and commendable action on the part of the wasatch county Commiss commissioners loners and the commissioners misa loners ners of summit county should immediately assemble and pass the same or a similar protest against the unjust measure of representative jorgenson aiming to cripple the mining industry of this state prompt action Is essential and every possible protest should be hurled against the proposed unreasonable taxation of chief industry summit county has much more at stake than wasatch county because of its far more vast mineral resources and its lilg big producing properties and the record feels certain there Is not a taxpayer in the county who would not add his signature to a protest against the passage of 0 house bill no 71 if such action Is deemed necessary the commissio commis commissioners ners the city council county and every civic organization in the county should get busy in an earnest effort toi to kill this proposed legislation |
