Show former park city youth meets with fatal accident photo by salt lake tribune HAROLD ADDISON BRIGGS i with a heavy heart we would drop a tear to the memory of harold B brigga r I 1 only son ot at mr and mrs ray H briggs former well known residents of this city but now living at 1148 browning avenue salt lake city his death has brought the bitter cup ot of sorrow to the lips of relatives and friends his was a heart of gold his was the soul of honor and his bis friends and friendships were sacred to him I 1 monday morning harold in his always happy manner bid goodbye good bye to his mother and father as he left tor for his work at the midwestern dairy products company pany where he had bad been employed during the summer vacation from his bis school work about on the same day a telephone message was received from glen campbell brother ot of mrs briggs that an accident had occurred at the plant and harold bad been taken to the hospital in a serious condition the anxious bious parents rushed to their son and were in time to speak to him and he to them before death eased the intense suffering caused from a broken back the details of just how the accident occurred will perhaps never be known as harold was alone at the time and his cries for help was the first intimation that his fellow wor kinen had that something had gone wrong the boys bad body was war lound wedged between the elevator i platform plat f arm and the floor harold briggs was born in this city april 17 1912 and lived here with his parents until they moved to salt like lake some ten years ago he graduated from the east high in june where he was well known as a swimmer and was plan ning on attending the university of utah i this coming year he be deciding to worl work the balance ot of thle this week and then take a 0 e short hort vacation before preparing himself S L 1 t lor for his bis life work of dentistry As we WB stood beside his grave on yesterday when w hen the sky was trimmed rimmed t with bowd her or go gorgeous ea us rosy hue in fancy we could see him not in deaths cold shroud of sorrow and despair but smiling with all the well remembered grace of his boyhood love and devotion and saying to us the sunset speaks but feebly of the glories ot of another day all Is well the mother of harold as she looked I 1 down upon the stalling lace face of her son for the last time offered a short prayer ito to the memory of her son and then sang onward christian soldiers with the glow of the inspiration that warms us this holy rapture that springs from the seeds of the divine mind sown in man the last services were held at 2 p in in the hawthorn L D S chapel I 1 i roosevelt avenue yesterday afternoon after and was attended by a large number of I 1 admiring friends of this city and of salt lake city the flowers that were sent by his hosts of friends were many arld and beautiful each death Is a link that binds us to the beyond so let us live and do that nhen hen our t time ime comes we will be found good link in the endless chain of the plan ot of the almighty the pall pal bearers were pals and members of the swimming teara team of which harold was a member earl clements gordon evans claud dark clark lewis riley lou keller and rolley malzone the rev arthur rice pastor of the phillips congregational church was in charge of the services |
