Show no arrests were made sunday the park utah athletic club gave their wrestling and boxing entertainment at the elks club rooms last sunday night light notwithstanding the ciders of city officials to the contrary under threats of airest and dire punishment if 11 the management ot of the club dared to violate the law therall the hall was opened the members of the club and contestants assembled tor for tj the ie entertainment with manager B H beveridge reve ridge awaiting the threatened arrest and to give defiance to the arresting officers cers whoever they might be I 1 city marshal baker wish his accustomed air of dignity put in his appearance pe arance and approaching mr air Beverl beveridge dge asked do you intend giving a dance at the conclusion ol of the athletic eahl bi bit lon tion with a look ot of conte pint and ringer anger mr beve ridge replied you know d d well we are not going to give a dance and that such a thing was never mentioned or even thought of then tha n continued the active marshal 1 1 I am instructed by the powers that be which include the city attorney and other officials that nothing can be found in the revised city ordinances prohibiting an athletic entertainment being given in our city on sundays and you rie aie now at liberty to go ahead with your program silly did the record hear some one remark to which the answer Is yes both the query and spasm of the city officials were not only silly but absolutely foolish funny it that both the city attorney and the councilmen who so 60 indignantly dir dign antly refused the request of the club to give an entertainment nt I 1 last est sunday find and who were so she shocked C aed ad to think that an effort was under way to violate inviolate the cardl farces of park city going so lar far as to intimate lat Int maie mate that mat ll if the disgraceful thing was attempted the entire police force headed by the city marshal who would die it if necessary in the performance of his d uty duty in law enforcement backed by the mayor and majority of the city council who have always fought bled and sui suffered tor for their determination to rigidly enforce the law in their home city yes indeed and then tor for the city attorney the city council and the city marshal to suddenly awake and publicly admit that neither of them know anything about the city ordinances revised or otherwise and that the spasm on the thursday night previous was merely the result of ignorance of the c city t y Is law w and so the park utah A t h e tic club gave its splendid exhibition last sunday night and will continue w without further interference ot of any kind to give good programs every other sunday night during the winter months tor for the pleasure and recreation tor for the many miners who have a sunday off twice s a month |
