were the guests ot of the silver king coalition and park mining companies in the great celebration of 0 labor day I 1 it mas just a continual roand of 0 pleasure for or the of the two big companies their families and the citizens in general from 9 a ni until 3 the next morning and everybody was happy none more so go than the officials of tie the two companies and the committees that had so successfully arranged I 1 the details and pleasures lor for the day monday Sep september Septen tamber itier 6 15 1926 will be talked about fora long time to come by all who participated therein as one ot of the most harmonious and pleasing labor day celebrations I 1 ever given in the state slate the record can give no better account ot of the days celebration than that given by bythe reporter received monday byj by looking over tie the multitude ot of pleasure seekers and the hundreds of cars parked at the consolidated tunnel field tho the scene ot of the labor day celebration for there one could have ses sesa seen a close to persons and cars iron from nearly halt the tha states ol of the union tourists from both east andl and west attract attracted edt by the gala da day y appearance appe aranco ot of the town and the vast throng as at the place meet was held drove into the field agnile or two from town and joined in the merry making the expense ot of the celebration was waa stood by the silver king coalition and ind the park utah mining companies the two companies gave away approximately 1600 in ill prizes during the day and furnished iree free transportation merry makers surged from the abb letie field to the lunch and soft drink stands farther west bee because ause of ct the great numbers rs gathered there it iwas necessary to require P each ach to stand in line until each had been served in order the lunchi lunch cs which consisted 1 ot sandwiches hot dogs etc were furnis hedl tree free by the t two we big mining companies the celebration began promptly at 9 a in with mith a so lection by the miners and muckers duckers boys band of 0 the silver king and the park utah companies tois this was followed by ho he flag raising of 0 he boy scouts I 1 then began the athletic contests which many declared would have done justice to terms teams of 0 trained athletes anywhere in the land contests are held from that time ime on there thera ve were races and contests of strength streng fhi and endurance men struggled tor for supremacy while wives and children 1 I on the sidelines and most ot f the victories reent to the representatives I 1 senta tives of 0 the park utah company A gallant fight was put up by the silver king men in each ol of the contests and not one stowed a sign ot of weakening until the last exertion had been made but the men proved themselves good losers as well as aa good d winners and the only contest that had to be repeated was the first heat ot of the drilling contest this repetition was not caused by the tact fact I 1 that the men participating objected to the decision but was due to the ot of the judges themselves ves the first birst athletic contest was the yard dash which was won von by davis ot of the park utah company company the time in this thia was waa 11 se second condis ls flat second place was claimed by smith also ot of the park utah the money in this race was 10 and 5 tor for first and second places second on the program was war the relay race of 0 yards this was waa won by the silver king team la in 49 25 26 2 5 6 seconds the money in this contest was 40 to the winner and 10 to the particularly after the conclusion of the festivities at the consolidated tunnel field aud and drunks became more numerous nuh nerous as the night hours advanced and to the disgrace of the he city many of these drunks were young boys and young girls were also seen under the influence of liquor so numerous I 1 re ere the drunks on the tha streets that at the instigation oi of city marshal baker about 11 the whiskey dives and the pool halls balls were ordered closed and the city and county peace officers on duty pro preceded ceded at once to close them all up tight this was certainly a chui coui commendable act on the part ot of city marshal baker andi one that will win for him the approval of every law abiding citizen to in the tha community and should win the commendation of the tha mayor
