THAT MAKE BOOZE washington aug 1st ast the eternal gullible still dominates a very large number of 0 american people as the alia fraud bureau of 0 the post office department can testify the latest evidence of this is the response of thousands sands of 0 american people to circular issued by german lAus tAus trian and other european concerns offering ott ering to sell powders which when dissolved according to instructions would produce wines beers tand land other alcoholic beverages according to the powder purchased these foreign concerns are trading upon the reputation of europe europa as being the home of wines beers and liquors the U S POst postoffice Office ment some time ago issued fraud orders against these adverts advertisements and worried warned the people not to send their money however thousands of 0 americans chave been gullible enough to believe in the advertisements rather than the statement of the fee department with the result of their losing their remittances A very significant requirement contained tail led in Is is that the money remitted must be american currency whenever the postoffice POst office department finds mall mail addressed to these concerns which have been declared frauds letters ate are stopped opened and the money returned to tile the sender where that is possible it should be clearly stated that under the united states laws if these powders contained any sort of alcohol even though it were in dehydrated form their importation would be prohibited in other words it if the advertisements advertis ments were not a fraud the articles avertis advertised ed could not be rought brought b into this country so that in any event it Is perfectly foolish tor for people to answer the advertisements it should be stated however that on analysis of the powders it has been bee shown that they do not contain any of the alcoholic possibilities that they are advertised to possess pos gess 0 FEDERAL ROAD WORK PROGRESS federal aid lates th that is why hundreds of thousands of europeans have emigrated em to this country they not only have been able to obtain tar far better wages than tham tha n they were paid in their home countries but they could buy more tor for a dollar in this country than they could tor for its equivalent in europe american wages have been maintained at th their air high level for the last 50 years solely because 0 of an american protective tariff system which prevented the In pouring of 0 goods made abroad by cheaply paid labor quits naturally had this country permitted such goods to come into unrestrained competition with american made goods there donld have been but two possible pos results either our manufactories manu factories would have been put out of business altogether or they would have been compelled to reduce their wage levels to the level of european wages |
