| Show 41 0 xa 4 4 0 kiis K i i S S t S t t 4 hiis i S 4 1 t T i 1 WP a I 1 polo ice kourt I 1 quite a ripple ot of excitement was caused monday evening when marshal st jeor acting on the orders ot of mayor paxton closed up four places on oil main alain street where it is alleged gambling booze selling and other law violations have been going on for many months past according to statements of 0 peace officers all these places and others not included in the list have been violating the law tor for many months past but the tro lible has been to get sufficient evidence to convict and so they were allowed to continue in business the officers apparently contenting themselves with arresting those who occasionally tilled filled up on the booze sold there at exorbitant prices and taxing them and allowing those responsible tor for the drunkenness to go unmolested consistency thou art a jewel the story of 0 the events which led up to the closing of drink parlors by the irate mayor as told to the record reporter follows about monday afternoon biankie and tom mcgree brothers were on main alain street in an advanced state ot of intoxication they were noticed by special policeman bud johnson who because of 0 it being a holiday tried to persuade the young men to go home and sober up and thus avoid arrest the jag w which filch the offenders were ivere carrying was of 0 the fighting kind and the officer was told to go to that they would not go home that they would drink as much as they pleased and do as they pleased etc this left but one thing tor for the officer to do and he did it the mcgree alegree brothers were landed in jail and a charge of drunkenness lodged against them later on as the story goes the father and mother of the young men visited them at the jail and naturally were indignant at the parties who sold the boys the liquor and endeavored deavo red to get the names ot of the law breakers s the boys refused to divulge where they obtained the booze the father then said lie be would show the officers who were selling liquor in the city and left the jail with this determination it is then alleged that mr air mcgree went to the club the international pool hall the eagles nest and tho the ander sou carlson pool hall where by merely paying the price he obtained the fiery fluid without any delay or secrecy mr air mccrea then went to mayor paxton paston and related his experience and asked why fish were made ot of some and fowl of oli others as regards the booze problem 1 or words to that effect i i mayor favor paxton was indignant to learn that such conditions existed I 1 in our well regulated city and he I 1 I 1 immediately hunted up the marshal and instructed him to close the hie places named and they were closed forthwith no arrests were made how 1 ever nor any re terrence ferrence whatever noted to the closing of the places on the police court blotter the brothers had their hearing before judge onell oneil plead 1 guilty to the charge of 0 drunkenness 1 and paid of their liard hard earn ed ad money to obtain their freedom I 1 and so again with a triffle more artl vehemence consistency thou art a jewel 40 last friday evening deputy sheriff W R jefford Jef tord with marshal st joor made blade a raid on a homo home on grant avenue and placed under artest arrest dominick Dominic lt glacoma and roman and confiscated a quantity of nl mash sh alleged booze and considerable other truck they were charged with having liquor in their possession posse oslon and placed under bonds they ahoy not lot having this amount of change convenient they wore taken to coalville Co alville where they will be guests of the county until their cases are disposed of at 1130 on oil the same night marshal st jeor policeman Mo uldine and sheriff jefford arrested anglo F fontona at ills his home on main street finding considerable moonshine the following day lie ho pleaded guilty gull y before bedfor judge onel of having liquor in it his hia possession and was fined 00 or ninety days in the city bartilo at hard labor the offender Is doing road work at present 1 40 W ed adkerson Ad korson was picked up on main alain street on the night of 0 july let drunk lie he had no excuse to offer the judge and so the minimum of was wag imposed or in lieu tell 0 of the cash thirty days with the work gang ile he Is now one ot of the gang 40 4 4 on oa july 3rd ard lewis levas stuart was run in by policeman because of an overload of moonshine ho he put up to appear the following day which amount wag wa forfeited because of nonappearance appearance non 40 0 e an hour or so later on the same night policeman arrested dan morgan at the sonata senate restaurant for being stewed and the fifty morgan put up tor for liis his appearance later was declared forfeited 10 40 in the early coining of july ath in the senate restaurant policeman arrested emorey noxie who was drunk and dressed up to the city jail ile he paid the customary |
