Show park city post american legion the Soli Sol diers idlers and sailors of park city and parleys park met tuesday evenin evening g to decide to participate in uniform in the pioneer day parade and to discuss matters pertaining to the organizing of a local post of 0 the american legion over fifty have now signed the application lor for a charter and it will go into state head I 1 1 quarters tomorrow the charter list will remain open however until november lith to give those a chance who have not yet returned from overseas beag it was decided to name the post in honor of the first local soldier boy killed in the war frank E peterson it is expected to lo bring the local membership at least when the chater Is received officers will be elected and the orga organization niza tion perfected after which regular meetings will be held this movement has the endorse ment ot of secretary ot of war newton D baker secretary of 0 the navy jose puns daniels general peyton C march chief of 0 staff general john J pershing major general george barnett commanding the united states marine corps and admiral william D sims the effort which is being made to bind together the men who served the country in the great war says secretary baker upon a basis of their common interest in one another their common servile service and tile their ir common loyalty to the country seems to me commendable from every point of view this organization is so dis hickly a spontaneous growth of the mind and heart of the meu men who have been in the service that it neither desires nor would be benefited by an official relationship to the war department part ment as a branch ot of the government but the war department is interested te in the soldier and I 1 who have been permitted to maintain through these heroic years a close relationship to the great army naturally have the kindest interest in everything that affects their welfare and the preservations of their great traditions the continued mobilization for or patriotic purposes of 0 the americans who served their country in ili the grim days of war declares secretary daniels will make tor for the preservation of the principles tor for which they fought valiantly and victoriously it would be a distinct loss it the unity ot 61 spirit iland and comradeship for or better things should not be crystallized crystall zed in such organized forces as to make these chiv alric crusaders as invincible tor for real americanism in peace as their valour and cheerfulness made them invincible and glorious in war |
