Show A TIMELY suggestion TO OURI OUR COUNCIL editor park record A condition and not a theory confronting the present city administration with the loss of 0 approximately approximated twenty five thousand dollars annually irom from saloon licenses flues fines etc it Is certainly time the city counell council were revising the city ordinances to meet the new conditions which will come into operation on and after august 1st ast 1917 it cannot be the intention of the present administration who were elected on a platform pledging economical services to maintain the present exorbitant city payroll alter after july 31 1917 the following outline of changes appear to the writer to be fully ample to attend to the wants of our city after the saloons are relegated to a deserved and lasting repose the saving effected should result in material benefit to the majority of our citizens and possibly pave a way to reduce the present H C L and dying administration ration the abor shall receive the sum of 2600 2500 per ceaf year tor for his services councilmen shall receive the sun sum of 2600 2500 per year ye artor for their services meetings of city council shall be ba held anthe on the first thursday or of each month all committee extra and executive sessions of council to be abolished all business of council satin be transacted in open sessions officers the ornamental but utterly useless office of city marshal shall bo be entirely abolished effecting a saving of or over each month the police force shall consist ot of two active members also a night I 1 watchman with police power who shall receive the sum ot of per day for their services paid only tor for time actually employed I 1 the officers ot of pollee police judge city I 1 I 1 recorder and city treasurer shall be I 1 consolidated the party filling the consolidated offices shall receive the sum ot of per year tor for their services city attorney it deemed necessary to continue the office shall ishall receive the sum of 0 per year the office of city water master and and city janitor to be consolidated the party filling the consolidated office offee shall receive the sum ot of per day for their services pay for time actually amplo employed the position of assistant water master shall bo be abolished whenever it becomes necessary to employ extra help parties so em employed aloye d sh shall a 11 bo be paid the regular wages of the camp not less than per day there should also be published in the columns of 0 the park record at regular advertising rates on the date ot of publication after the regular council meeting an itemized statement of all the receipts and disbursements bur also the actual financial condition of the city so that the average man in the street can see at a glance the exact financial standing in ot of our city each and every month let our watchword at this most crucial period in the history of our country be strict economy something entirely foreign to the average american municipality in the past the present Is the opportune time to put into practical operation the economical plank in the republican platform ot of 1915 let us demonstrate our patriotism not by mere shouting to or displaying old glory but the patriotism which proceeds quietly to perform the duty of the citizen heether that duty be in business public office or the home J P LANGFORD park city utah april 1917 |
