Show L TE THE CITY COUNCIL 4 0 0 the first meeting of the city council for july was held thursday evening with mayor ridge councilmen nielson Nl elson rosevear mcfarlane and hales answering to the roll call with marshal richardson water master wilson and city attorney dalgleish in their accustomed places george 9 wilson and E W berry were interested te visitors the minutes of 0 the last meeting were read and approved bills to the amount of 5 1 were read 0 ke ked and ordered paid with the exception of john hymans bill for city improvements a percentage being held back until work could be measured and inspected by committee on streets alleys and bridges the pay roll tor for july amounted to john nyman B s bill was and the rest of 0 the expenditures ere tor for current bills the treasurer s report showed receipts tor for the month to be 4 with warrants paid during in month anth of 0 the bank balance august 1 was with a sink fund of the report of city justice jefford showed seventy three cases for the in month anth pines fines imposed collected in cash committed appealed some business for a quiet town sexton gidley reported only two deaths in july was collected by him during month 30 00 still due his office A wholesale liquor license was granted frank steward and a retail liquor license will be granted W C young when proper bond Is furnished A letter was read from the woman peddler who was compelled to pay a license before leaving town in which she roasted the mayor and officials and wished she was in england where she could obtain justice etc to be good fellows the members of the council wished she were as america would be none the loser thereby mr geo F wilson being called upon said he N was as present to ask that the abominable nuisance known as the kimball stable opposite rio grande station be abated the gentleman said he be and others had complained to city officials who had made promises which were not fulfilled and he thought in behalf of public health and decency action should be taken against the agent wm win T doidge tor for allowing this filth pile to go unnoticed marshal richardson said he be had demanded of sam mitchell the ceasee to clean up the premises and attorney dalgleish said he had issued a warrant tor for the arrest of the offender yet notwithstanding the nuisance continued to the great annoyance of citizens and taxpayers of that locality mayor ridge was emphatic in his opinion that this nuisance should be of abated and with the consent of the co council instructed marshal richardson to notify the agent of the property mr doidge that it if the filth was not cleaned up and the place put pui in sanitary condition within one week proceedings would be commenced good A mr russell owner of a meny go round and other devices devices to pull the dimes from our citizens asked tor for a license to run these concerns tor for a week and on request of councilman rosevear the license was granted and the attractions will be here soon A verbal report was made by mr air neilson on sidewalks etc councilman rosevear reported that his committee had at last found a satisfactory fire ere alarm which had been ordered and same expected to arrive within the next week from connecticut F from rom pictures and description crip tion it appears to bo be just the system required tor for our city water master wilson was instructed to put in stand pipe at ontario mill and to inspect the hose donated by the daly west people for use at that point mayor ridge said because of action taken in salt lake to get rid of undesirables in the metropolis that many of them would flock to park city and marshal richardson was instructed to keep an eye open for these and to keep them moving onward councilman rosevear asked what was going to bo be done regarding cement walk from park avenue up tramway to norfolk after some discussion the matter was left with committee on streets alleys and brid gesto investigate finances etc and it city could stand expense to go ahead with construction after a few timely remarks and well wishes from mr E W berry to the mayor and councilmen and brief reminiscences relating to himself and the record man when mr berry was councilman the council adjourned |
