can boast of such citizens THE TRUE spirit of christmas has prevailed in park city the past week day and night happy shoppers have thronged thron ged the business houses and mothers and fathers and children wended bended their way homeward loaded with packages of all shapes and sizes tor for happy surprises tomorrow to morrow truly christmastide Is a joyous season and the record sincerely hopes there will be no appointments diss in any home IT HAS been officially announced by mayor elect ridge and sanctioned by the councilmen elect that W D richardson Is to be the next city marshal ot of park city because of the fact that no application had been made tor for the position the appointment came as a surprise to mr richardson as well as to the citizens generally As would have been the case had any other citizen been named for this important position much dissatisfaction and condemnation has been expressed but when sober judgment and common sense Is allowed iway sway there are 1 few but will admit that dan richardson has the essential qualifications for a good marshal and the record thinks he will perform the duties of the office with ability firmness and fairness it if given the moral support of good citizenship zen ship he Is active and capable knows the requirements of the office and has the courage and determination to see that the laws are obeyed without tear fear or favor he of course will resign as local juvenile officer arid and has already secured the services ot of man to taker take full charge of 0 his undertaking business in order that he may devote his whole time and attention to the duties of city marshal until convinced to the contrary the record will maintain that he Is going to surprise his present traduce traducers re rs by proving the best marshal park city ever had giving service and demanding efficiency from those under him As to the various other appointments appointment si they are but rumors and the record Is authorized to announce only the name ot of the city marshal ONE WEEK from next monday the republican city administration will be in power the officers elect are all practical thoughtful men and much is expected from them in the government of city affairs they were elected on a common sense platform and for fear certain planks of said platform might be overlooked the record republishes them that consideration might be given our city bettered and expenditures I 1 curtailed we pledge a businesslike business like and economic administration of city affairs and will use our best and earnest efforts to reduce the present unnecessary high running expenses of the city government by combining city offices wherever possible demanding lust just service and promising greater efficiency at a less e expenditure x pend iture we pledge ourselves to a rigid enforcement of the city ordinances din ances and shall insist that public officials do their full duty without tear fear or favor irrespective of tle line of bustness business or established precedent WHAT THE united states bureau of mines is doing to aid in the d velo ment of mineral industries in tills this country by suggesting ne new r and better the annual report of the bureau tor for the fiscal year ending june 30 1916 issued today the report Is a series of chapters of big industrial achievements by american manufacturers of millions of christmas carols only dirges will be chanted the wisest straining their eyes cannot see why the present scourge was permitted why the stage was set why the terrible acts are being called they only know that it Is natures way when the air becomes felted and a pestilence Is threatened to call up the cyclone to clear tho the air and they remember that while in the wake ot of the storm are swept fields shattered homes and dead animals and men the atmosphere la is cleared Is there any parallel between that and the cataclysm that Is now changing the taco face of 0 europe and a part of asia
