Show NO CHANGE N IN THE STRIKE SITUATION AT THE SILVER KING the meeting of the miners with general manager kearns and president keith last sunday resulted in naught county attorney neeley on the job eleven days have elapsed since the walkout walk out occurred at the king coalition with no immediate chance lor for adjustment yet in sight county attorney P H neeley remained in the city last friday saturday and sunday and made ceoric et ef forts to adjust matters and to have we th e men go back to work while he accomplished much good lie he failed to succeed in his principal effort last saturday general manager kearns and president keith with P ill H neely as mediator went over the entire situation with a committee 0 of r miners consisting of tom T tom m knight and john murphy it was a friendly meeting not the least evidence of ill feeling existing on either side that night the committee reported their findings to a general meeting me of tho the king miners which met at the dewey theater the result of 0 this was to extend an invitation to manager kearns and president keith to meet with them the following afternoon at the dewey the invitation was accepted and sunday afternoon kearns and keith with secretary P F 3 westcott and P H neeley meet with the miners mr kearns was the principal speaker and after going over the whole matter lie he proposed that the miners return to work at once and give the compensation plan which Is the cause of the present trouble a fair trial for or eighteen mouths months and it if the workmen did not then approve of it he be auld agree to the appointment of a joint committee with power to revise the plan pian to meet the approval of the miners or it if this was wa found impossible the plan would be abandoned he further tn informed formed the miners that when sliver silver reached 65 c cents e ants per ounce every man in hla his employ p joy would get a raise in wages without asking tor for it workmen now getting less than per day would be raised 60 50 cents and all getting or more per day would be rats raised 25 cents or an equivalent percentage ile he said further when you voted to go out and turned in the ultima ultimatum turn to the superintendent in I 1 was in nevada I 1 dont know what the trouble was all about and I 1 know that any order had been given that the men must sign the agreement or quit I 1 possibly get there before the time set tor for the walkout i why you in fairness to me have permitted me time enough ito to get here why we have i continued on page five |
