Show charles brockway GAR veteran dead taps has been sounded tor for anther local G A R veteran and he has retired to his eternal rest charles brockway a worthy citizen who had lived in our midst E since ince june 1877 was stricken with i v I 1 ill P pneumonia au a week ago yesterday an and despite the efforts of 0 sk skilled id P physicians ici and loving attention he breathed his last tuesday morning at 1130 deceased was a kindly affable old gentleman beloved by all who knew him A good citizen a devoted father and a true friend he will be missed and mourned by his loved ones ill his s comrades and his friends diaries charles brockway was born at clyde wayne county new york on april 22 1840 on march 1 1862 he enlisted as a private in company 17 fifth iowa infantry and was dis charged on august 11 1866 1865 as private ot of company G filth fifth iowa cavalry canair Y he erne cinie to utah early in IS 18 ii 0 first locating in alta ala where ho bo remained until 1877 when ho caino to park aty city living hern here since that ti time in e his first la in park city was wood hauling then lie he accepted a position as stable bots bobs for kimball brothers which he filled for a number of years then he went with the ontario company as and later night watchman on january 7 1912 ills his wife died in this city since which time he has been living with his daughter mrs george grose deceased Is survived by two daughters mrs grose of this city and mrs pearl rose of los angeles california also three sisters mrs mary E sloane and mrs maggie dyers byers of des moines iowa mrs elsie roby of jefferson city iowa and mr jeff brockway of jefferson city iowa one sister mrs sloane was recently in the park on a visit with her brother leaving tor for her home the same day he was taken down with his fatal illness the funeral took place this noon from society hall bishop W 5 lewis officiating and the few remaining local G A R members attending in a body the last sad rites mr brockway was a member ot of the mckean post salt lako lake and several comrades came up from the city to attend the funeral the rhe pall bearers were W F P laughlin wm wim J robinson william J ed jenkins taylor goodwin and harry van alstine Alst lne all spanish american war veterans one by one the old resident soldiers are passing on it seems but yesterday when they had a local post in park city with a membership ot of forty three today to day there are but three resident members namely joseph gunther aged 78 richard sykes aged 73 and A H fuelling aged 69 |
