that it iti is as good a ticket as lias has even been bee a presented to the voters of summit county and that it will be elected seems a foregone conclusion it was a well ell conducted and harmonious convention that named the above ticket As an evidence of 0 the interest manifested in the naming of the ticket by the representatives of summit countes coun tys republicans only two proxies were voted all oth r delegates being present the meeting was called to order by county chairman archibald he complimented the republicans on the good attendance and urged that a clean ticket be named he predicted success for the party because of the fact that the country countr has hall had a taste of 0 democratic rule which vas anything but agreeable and the ibe voters were anxious to enter a protest against the principles ad vacated vi bated by the democrats he said the republicans always had the best interests of the people at heart and he desired the republicans here assembled to act on the square burying all petty differences and unite in naming a strong winning ticket secretary J E johnson then read the call tor for the convention as published in the record chairman archibald named L B wight as temporary chairman and moses C taylor was unanimously elected as temporary secretary in accepting the honor bestowed mr wight endorsed all that had been said by the previous speaker ife he was opposed to the wilson administration saying that eighteen months had been sufficient to prove the fallacy of the principles advocated he said there was no doubt of 0 a rational national republican victory two years bears hence and ho he urged the selection of a strong county ticket thit that our protest against democracy night might be entered this tall fall he hoped that only tried for the short time that party has been in power in ill less leas vian than two years they have violated wore nore ot of the promises made to the voters of the country than any other party has ever seek to raise money by direct taxation on the people they promised free tolls tor for american coastwise shipping through the panama canal and they have flagrantly and openly repudiated that promise they promised the markets of the orld to the american manufacturer and work tor for the laborer the manufacturer has been compelled to thaw draw the fires from the furnaces slid pud boilers and the laborer walks tile the streets without employment they promised to reduce the cost of living and we have seen the cost ol of living steadily rise and the laboring mans wage grow steadily less they promised to change the tariff it it did not improve conditions and in spite of the tact fact that conditions have grown worse tor for all the people they tell us that our troubles ale aio psychological and that we have good times we recollect that once before during the past fifty years the democratic party was in full control of the legislative and executive branches of the government and that we then ind 1 ad to sell bonds in times of peace to pay the running expenses of the government and now we are reduced to the same expedient or we must submit to direct taxation they promised not to violate the civil service regulations and they have returned to the spoils system to the great detriment of every department of the government they promised a foreign policy characterized by statesmanship and they have at the end of two years no foreign policy except that of watchful waiting and what pres vige we once had in the great family of nations Is fast we heartily endorse the road
