seventh grade pupils of the heber city and price utah sent seat descriptive letters of their respective towns to tile the superintendent of our city sell schools asking that similar letters be written by seventh grade pupils of park city giving a description of our town the letters were turned over to mrs hedges teacher of the seventh grade at the washington building who read them to her pupils with the instructions that every pupil write a story of park city to be sent to the pupils in the schools named this was done and wednesday of this week they were submitted had and read at school every effort was a creditable one showing owing sli pride and enthusiasm for the town in which the youngsters live well written and interesting the two adjudged best were written written IY by oA crip tion of heber and vicinity written by david baum it is with reluctance I 1 approach tile the task of unfolding to your mental view the beauty and advantages of park city aud vicinity with winding canyon at the head of parleys creek between domelike hills clot clothed lied in winter by the pure white snow in spring and summer by a beautiful variety of bushes evergreens ever greens and the churches are the latter day saints Con grega olic methodist episcopalian and lutheran the churches are all attractive and buddin buildings the park record is a paper any town should be proud of it boosts for i or park city and theodore roosevelt no city ever had a more liberal school board and they desire the children of park city to lime ha e the bet bea in the way of education we have three large sc school hool building sand another was recently purchased to be used fo for r domestic science the schools also own a library that should be the pride of every girl and buy boy in n vm rm city description of park city and vicinity park city is situated about thirty two miles southeast of salt lake city and was first settled in the year 1871 A D the name park city was given because of the many pine and fir trees found in this valley park city is a mining camp situated in a narrow valley surrounded by high mountains capped with snow the altitude being be in 0 over seven thousand feet above sea level the mines of park city are very rich having havin produced about one hundred million dollars about forty millions ht WO of which was paid in dividends the mines are situated out in tile the mountains between one and two miles from the city there are between fifteen hundred and eighteen hundred men employed in tile mines and mills the mines yield mostly silver and lead but some gold copper and zinc are also produced the wealth from tile the mines of park city have built more of salt lake cites skyscrapers than any other one city in tile the state and although there are no millionaires living jiving in park city at the present time there have been many men who have been made millionaires by our mines there are about ten producing mines in the vicinity the ontario mine are run by electricity the climate of park city is delightful the summers are not too hot as there is always a cool mountain breeze blowing many people come to park city to escape the heat of the larger cities the winters are cold with a great deal of snow and as there are always hills the chil chi dren and many times the grown people have a fine place to coast the winters are very cold and the air is without fogs and is very crisp and healthful heal during the summer a federal building will be built costing more than we have a boys club and anc gymnasium comb combined inid where thi the boys spend their evenings instead or of running the streets we have two moving picture shows running overy every night in the week we also have a newspaper is issued weekly the park record which never misses an opportunity to boost for the state and particularly for 1 or park city we have our own water system with pure mountain water our reservoir is built of cement and has a capacity of five hundred thousand gallons which gives giver us ample fire protection the town is lighted by electricity we have two passe passenger nIffer trains leaving and arriving daily durin during the summer season we have a daily stage line running to brightens tons lake the famous summer resort we have an excellently hospital with a competent staff of physicians and nurses park city is well represented in a religious way having six different denominations the population of park city is about there are arc many nice homes here we have an excellent school system and our schools are as good as any in the sate including salt lake city we have from the kindergan den to the esth grade also high school four years which next year will add domestic science to the regular course we have three school houses and an enrollment roll ment of over 1000 pupils the sidewalks of main street are paved with cement we have an excellent bra bras band and and a band stand on main street where in the summer evenings they give an open air concert once a week which is much appreciated by our people and also by visitors up in the mountains two I 1 or three miles from town we have lave small lakes where tile the bisbin fishing is is fine and it is one of the most beautiful spots in utah in the summer on the top of the highest mountain peak we can on a clear summer day see salt lake valley it will at some
