| Show By IRIS IRm S By the time Christmas Is just two days away most of us J have the hard work behind us And of all the chores it Is s necessary to perform In order to celebrate this f favored holiday in n the traditional manner the end ot Christmas card I mailing earns the biggest sigh of relief from me However I place this exchange of cards near the top or of the list for d engendering a feeling of friendliness and good cheer With the probable exception of the mailman I dont don't know anyone who doesn't greet each days day's card delivery with joy BUT I STILL REGARD IT AS one of oC the times when It really is more blessed to receive than to give To be sure I want all my friends and relatives to know I remember them which is why I send cards but I make mak pretty heavy weather of the whole operation ration When I go to b buy y m my cards I examine at a conservative 87 estimate boxes before I choose one Usually the first box I looked at Every year as regularly as the season arrives I misplace my list of J addresses and have to spend an evening cuddled up With the i phone book And always after Ive I've mailed out the last of our cards we receive about 25 from people who didn't get one from us J As far as Im I'm concerned another of the necessary Christmas shopping chores for gilts gifts a pleasure To n begin with its it's the one season of the year when toes can be J trod on without the threatening t to o cream the Almost everyone everone is cheerful and loving Nor am I lone one of I those who grumbles at length about the commercialization Christmas It seems to me people crowd the stores and J of Christmas It seems to me people crowd the stores and 11 buy a great deal for tor a vcr very basic there reason are people they love lo It If that's commercial Its It's good enough for me In I fact Im I'm naive enough to consider It the idea behind the holiday ONCE THE SHOPPING IS done we buy the tree and put I it up Like most families we have traditions established by bythe bythe the parents and firmly hung on to by the children The way we put up the tree its position In the house and the way it is decorated remain the same year alter after year 11 We think silver trees With all red or blue or gold J ornaments are a beautiful sight to behold In the homes of other people In our home we have a pine tree which sheds I needles with fIne abandon all over the carpet and which is decorated by the children It looks just the way a tree is I supposed to look when decorated by a children bit lopsided as to lights rather gaudy bunchy on the icicles and exactly i the way we like It I WE HAVE THE SAME KIND too We I Imy have store bought fruit cake since I always alwa's intend to make II my own and never get around to it We have fudge with nuts I penuche nOche without green divinity and pink popcorn balls One year in a mad burst of rebellion lon I colored the divinity pink and made green popcorn balls The smallest child cried II Occasionally to adults tradition and boredom begin to i seem like similar words To children they are not even in inthe the same language C fic l i ti cs df |
