and gen schuyler schuyer head of I 1 I 1 the fhe morgan railroads victims of a terrible wreck other distinguished persons caught in the collision 11 I 1 lynchburg va nov 29 president dent samuel spencer of tho the southern railway hailway system who was en ell route to the south was killed this morning in a rear benl enl en collision at lawyers ten nilles miles south of lynchburg the private ear car in which he was riding was struck and split open by the co colliding lAding locomotive it immediately caught fire and the bodycot body of mr air spencer was burned almost beyond recognition in the car with him were philip schuyler of new york city mr air spencers private secretary merrill errill Al and his private dispatcher D W davis of alexandria va operator divis davis was waa crushed an ana 1 died in fifteen minutes mr schuyler was instantly killed but his body was not badly burned before it was rescued by passengers engineer 0 perry who was on the rear train was killed private secretary merrill ler rill was injured but the nature of his injuries has not been learned he will be brought to this city about noon twelve or thirteen passengers most of them negroes were wounded only one pf af whom is thought to be fatally hurt eight negroes are arc in the city hospital he here re having arrived at 11 0 clock the collision was between no 3 33 1 the jacksonville express and train no 37 the washington and south western limited the jacksonville train stopped on the app of a very heavy grade a mile north 0 ol 01 the lawyers depot to repair a slight break breakdown aown down and before it is said a flagman could get back to protect the train the atlanta train dashed into I 1 it the heavy engine of the train plowed into tho the private car of president spencer cF in which he and his alt guests 1 are supposed to fo have been sleeping g immediately the he private car caught fire alre every piece alece of w wood bod work on I 1 tle th e engene eng lne was burned and the was instantly I 1 killed arid and that he be did not suffer the tortures of being burned dispatcher davis was alive when taken from under the wreckage he was crushed about the lower portion of the body and was conscious until tile the end ile he asked that word be sent to his wife and child chialdi the death of mr TN ir davis was touch touching ng he stated to his fits rescuer that lie he knew on main street hence they did not go to lawyers until 0 clock on account of the train with the injured passengers having the track between rangoon and tile the scene ot of the accad accident it was spencers car the rear sleeper to which the private coach was attached was wrecked but it was not burned the regular day coach and the forward pullman were practically uninjured but the combination coach second from the engine was crushed it was here that all the among the wounded were hurt they were unable to extricate themselves from the baggage hurled upon thern them and many would have died but for the rescue work led by mr ar curtis an effort was made shortly after noon to learn the name off odthe the operator in charge of the block station at rangoon but he had been relieved and no one
