Show car could not be controlled by motorman on account of the slippery condition of the flails in one of the worst street car collisions in the history of ogden which occurred at 1210 this morning motormen I 1 T richards and charles fisher had most remarkable escapes from death As it Is eboth men sustained serious injuries which will probably disable them for some time richards buffering with a dislocated hip sprained wrists scalp wound and internal injuries while fisher re calved a number of ugly wounds on the head an injured back and was slightly in anred about tho arms and sj the collision which occurred at the corner of twenty second street and washington avenue was caused by twenty second street car no 16 sliding down the hill on icy rails and striking twenty fifth street car no 20 car no 16 in charge of motorman fisher got taeyong control near the comer of jefferson avenue the were thrown on and the car slid down the hill As it reached adams avenue it gained in velocity despite the frantic efforts of fisher to stop it between adams and washington avenues the car was going at the rate of sixty miles an hour car no 20 in charge of richards was coming from the south going to the barn and was approaching the switch at twenty second street motorman richards saw the runaway car coming and tried fb reverse his car but before he could do this or jump the other car struck his car car no 20 was thrown up against a telephone and trolley pole and held there richards was thrown several feet away from the wreck fisher was thrown bade into his car and out through the window of the rear vestibule both cars were badly damaged and will have to be rebuilt it may be possible that both motors are not injured richards who sustained the worst injuries walked to the power house and in a dazed condition reported the wreck A doctor was summoned and the injured man taken to bis home |
