PRESIDENT BAER ANSWERS makes make statement regarding action of state legislature philadelphia aeb 11 ll geo F baer president preside lit of the brading company has issued a statement in regard to tho the action of the pennsylvania house of representatives last friday in adopting a resolution instructing the attorney general to bring court proceedings against tho anthracite coal carrying crying roads it if on inquiry he finds they are violating tho the constitution of the state the resolution which was introduced by representative chassy of columbia county a democrat will come before the he state senate tomorrow for action the resolution names the pennsylvania railroad the philadelphia reading IL railway allway company and the delaware lackawanna and western railway in his statement president baer says that tile tho reading company right to own the stock of the coal corn com banys and secured under Oi charter arter was granted before the adoption of thi th now constitution these are vested rights he says and the constitution ox ex declares them valid relative to the averment of the resolution that it is alleged that the price of anthracite th coal has been raised since the last anthracite strike per ton yet tho the so 30 called operators are refusing to allow the miners an increase in wages thus another strike is threatened president baer cites figures to prove that wages and materials serials have increased to such an extent that the companas comp anys increased profits fronts per ton in ili the past years has been 3 cents labor having gained cents in tho the same time air baer says that the present pros of the reading system is not due to profits on coal mining and carrying but to the heavy Jn ncr creaso easo of miscellaneous freight passenger and bituminous coal traffic
