were strolling in the enclosure enjoying the balmy air of the pleasant evening and gazing with wonder and admi admiration nation upon the magnificent electrical display to say that this display was one of the most brilliant and imposing affairs of 0 its kind ever witnessed in ogden or in III utah is a mild expression and no exaggeration of the truth in point of artistic design and marvelous splendor it was one of the most pleasing scones of the evening ever since the convention met the electrical display has been one of the chief topics of favorable comment among the visitors it is not even at such great fairs as the portland ey ef and the worlds fair at st louis louig the committee in charge of last nights program deserve much honor and th the 3 greatest commendation for their decorations nf cf bu bunting an and d lights in the city hall square they transformed the northwest corner of the square into a verliabel verl tabel fairyland it was a charming place filled with a jubilant crowd an enclosure rectangular in shape was fenced off with wire netting or on the square this enclosure was about feet long and feet wide the fence made of wire netting was covered in an artistic manner with long streamers of blue yellow and white bunting above theses these wore were streamers running around the entire space bearing the national colors in the center of the grounds e enclosed closed n a pole some forty feet high was planted and from the top of this pole eight long strings of electric lights ran to ro the coners and sq sides Vs of the grounds there was another string of lights that ran completely around the grounds the lights which were 18 inches apart on the string and in all al were red whito white and blue fifty three dining tables each accommodating commo dating four persons decked the greenlawn green lawn here bere and there each bach table was covered with 1 snow white linen and placed upon the center of each table was a large beautiful bouquet of the choicest flowers light refreshments fresh ments and punch was served by the falstaff cafe they furnished sandwiches made of deviled ham assorted meats and imported swiss cheese olives pickles salads crackers etc were also to be had mr pattison superintended super intended the serving of the guests and was assisted by 26 waiters he deserves much credit tor for the courteous and bountiful manner in which he served the guests beer forthe for the occasion was furnished by the becker becken brewing company while the weather was a little cool yet there were several empty bottles lying around when the reception closed the main reason for this however was because water and coffee were not served there was not a drop of water to be found on the grounds A bandstand was erected in the southeast corner of the recep reception ti h grounds and the fort douglas military band of thirty three pieces with F herrick as director played excellent music for tho the occasion the bandstand was vas tastily decorated lec orated with the prevailing colors and was beautifully illuminated with large clusters of electric lights at 10 many nad left the reception and wended bended their way to toller s dancing academy where a grand ball was in progress the rhe attendance tat at the ball was war unusually large and fashionable every available inch of space in the waiting rooms corridors and abo main ball w was s occupied and many were unable to fa dance or even find standing room many of the tired boys lounged in the sitt sitting lIng or smoking booras and exchanged jokes and talked of
