Show DR L SKEE 11 VIED DIED AT 0 tubercular meningitis THE CAUSE OF DEATH young physician of remarkable abili ity disease contracted at college dr lyman skeen keen who has been III for thirteen da day succumbed to an at attack of tubercular meningitis at 1035 this morning fa 1 tho the homo home or of his brother J D skeen no 2338 madison avenue although afflicted with the dis disease casse for over a year he was stricken down on may alay became delirious on sunday may oth and never fully regained consciousness ile he leaves a father lyman skeen sr eight brothers and seven sisters born at plain city in this county on july 1 1871 dr lyman skeen gained his inspiration in educational work to which lie he was to devote the greater part of his life fo in the weber coun ty schools he completed i the work in the plain city and later pursued his studies under the direction of professor T B lewis at tile tho contral central school of this his city lie he spent one year at the bilgram young college lat at logan and afterwards was graduated from tho the university of deseret where he took look the four year normal course and a tour four year course in the literary department during the years 1891 and 1893 inclusive clu sive lie he taught in ili the plain city schools after which he began the study of med medicine lene in the university of virginia in the fall of 1893 here the degree of M D was conferred upon him in the spring of 1895 from that time until the spring of 1902 ho he was waa employed as in the university serving mott most of the time as first asAi assistant stant in the tha biological department I 1 meantime ho veyer he continued his hii studies and abd in 1901 ho he was awarded a ph D degree ile he spent the summer seasons casona fc in taking special work at new york boston and baltimore during the vaca tion of 1900 he fravel t raveled ed through europe and did special work at the university of berlin in 1902 he left tto tr university of virginia and took a one i years postgraduate post graduate course in berlin actor which ho returned to ogden where he hu has since been one of the most successful physicians A while at tho the university of virginia lie he did special work in pathology and for years made examinations of students and professors without charge particular attention att antion was given to the examination of students stu denta tor for tubercular germs and during hla hits researches he prepared a collection of 1500 slides containing germs of different diseases while doing this work be undoubtedly contracted the disease which resulted in his death ile he suffered for more than a year and during mos mas of that time he was evidently cognizant of the nature ol of the disease and linew knew what the result would n be but it was not until he was confined to his bed that his relatives and friends discovered the real complaint he remarked marked ri that his reason for withholding the information was his regard for the feelings of his family and particularly of his father the funeral arrangements will be announced later |
