Show INNES innes and his band are wholly un like the old time military band in tone and tunefulness every string instrument to be found in a symphony orchestra has 1 wind instrument of corresponding tone in this band annea went a step farther than the other concert band leaders when he introduced the orchestral string basses and harps as auxiliaries to the saxe family which holds such a preeman ent place in ats organization it Is this novel combination which serves to give the marcellous marvellous marv ellous orchestral effects which have earned for the band its distinctive standing popular music will occupy a prominent place on the pro gramme to be played by the band here while the lovers of the highest in music will find plenty to feast upon A pleasing feature ot the gramme pro also wil be the solos rendered by ame mme emma partridge the greatest american can aatrice and bohumir kryl the wonder i tul bohemian cornet virtuoso who has been declared by the best critics to be the greatest living exponent ot that favorite instrument innes an his band will appear in this city tonight at the grand opera for one concert only it was only a couple of weeks after the conried engagement in omaha that innes and his baud went to that city 10 lo play during the omaha festival week on one of the pro grammes were the innes selections cronl here are the comments of abo omaha new on tho evenings per forma of ano innas band reappeared in omaha thursday evening when innes band placed as the second part of its program excerpts horn magners wagners Wag ners damom opera the selections were admirably interpreted furnishing a gratifying rc mem branco of the two productions ot the work heard in omaha but a few weeks previously that has gained a listing hold on omaha music lowers was shown by the great audience which attended mia partridge san the kun in the portion where Is tempted by the maidens while mr Hii itman sang the solo the Impress he chorus of the knights of the holy grail was given by the band and the festival chorus at the grand tonight kryl without doubt tho greatest the world ever new Is a bohemian filled with the musical temperament characteristic ot the czech and slav races some se en years ago he was a sculptor at work on tho magnificent soldiers monument in indianapolis at a social function innes heard him and was struck by bla wonderful playing although kryl was but an amateur innes recognized his genius and ability ana persuaded him to drop the chisel for the cornet under the great bandmasters band masters personal instruction kryl rapidly developed and was goon the marvel of the age today he is the premier virtuoso of the cornet and no one can approach him on bis chosen instrument kryl has been the leader of the innes corps of instrumental soloists for some time and is now concertmaster of the innas band at the grand tonight no great exposition is complete without innes and bis band and they have figured at aery one h old since the philadelphia centennial the sensation they created in 1904 at st louis where the band played six weeks was only a duplicate of similar events at chicago buffalo charleston omaha pittsburg burg philadelphia atlanta and new orleans no wonder then that the innes band was insisted upon for the dedication of the great lewis dark exposition portland june 1905 and to celebrate the anniversary ot the california schools at san francisco and los angeles in may every summer the band is engaged for series of festivals of from one to six weeks in the parks of the largest cities while during the winter it is en tour in its own private train the demand on its time is tremendous and that it la to visit here Is cause for great congratulation to those whose ability and foresight have made it possible in a talk with ame mme partridge the prima donna soprano of innes company she said the success of our present tour has been ip normous and I 1 understand that mr innas and his associates socia tes arof cry much gratified to what do I 1 attribute this result well largely I 1 think to the universal dedire to hear selections from the music magners wagners Wag ners great music drama which is undoubtedly the musical sensation of the present season mr innes production of the work is given in the same boim as when the work was first produced in america by the late anton under the authority 0 wagner himself this version of iho music cuts out all the more fed ions parag 0 the work and there arc a great many of them in the opera and gives simply tho finest bumbera from atio work I 1 hae never sung tho lolo 1010 0 in its oper ilic form as my experience in german opera has been confined to two seasons at the munich opera house and it la of course known to you that Is not to bp performed in germany by in fact anywhere else legally except in mr innas has a wonderful organ lation with him in heard all the best bands of europe but I 1 do not think that any ono of them can compare with tho innes organization there is an orchestral ch quality about the band which makes it as delightful in accompanying a voice aa tiny ono of the finest orchestras ch estras I 1 am an american by birth having been born of german parents in milwaukee in 1880 but everything seems eo strange to me by reason of my long residence abroad that I 1 almost feel a stranger in my own country but the audiences in the different cities where we play have treated me with such great kindness that it justifies the longing for and lovo for home which all we americans over there seem to suffer from moro than any other people away from home the transcontinental tour of innes and his band has been marvelously successful from the early part of april when the first concerts were given in chicago through omaha where the band played in connection with a festival chorus of adults and children through lincoln where the festival chorba numbered and the childrens chorus 2000 through kansas where at lindeborg lindsborg Linds borg there was an adult chorus of COO as well as in the small towns where there was no chorus at all with chorus and without chorus the performances have called forth great audiences and excited the warmest approval of the critics the fact is innes understands music he knows musical history and literature it he gives but one performance he will gaie what on the aholo the person of musical knowledge will say is best worth hearing in the world of music and it ho gives two concerts the listener will say 1 I am glad I 1 did not miss cither he is a great pro gramme maker his purpose seems to be to give in each place bo he there for only one afternoon atter noon or evening or for a week all that Is best worth hearing he is giving all the time that which will give his audiences the greatest worth for their money the principal vocal soloist who is appearing with innes and hi band on the present tour is ame mme emma partridge known as the most sensational soprano this country has ever produced ame mme partridge was with trie band last year and her every appearance was a triumphal ovation ame mme partridge is a nativa of milwaukee but early in her career the celebrated ame mme milton of paris heard her sing at once took her to tho french capital and developed her remarkable talent within three months oho was singing in conservatories Conserva tories her most recent tremendous successes in opera especially in lucia faust and more particularly she is the greatest grea teat living today are matters of general knowledge she has a soprano voice of great power and range yet of peculiar sweetness a most charming personality great beauty and all the attributes of the leading prima jouna of the day |
