Show HOW THE HOLIDAYS ARE BEGUN BY educational institutions programs carried out at all the public schools tho different educational institutions throughout the city have either celebrated or are making preparations to celebrate christmas day with appropriate programs and festivities thero is a general feeling of joy in the knowledge of labors well done and the good cheer of the yule tide season Is in all the schools some ot the schools celebrate this afternoon and tonight while others especially the state institutions will hold their entertainments on christmas eve in the public schools bupt supt allison reports that regular christmas pro grams aro being carried on today in the various rooms the parents have been invited to attend the exercises exorcises and inspect the work of the pupils the fall of tho beautiful will deepa great number from visiting the schools that would have gona had the weather been more favorable but then ot course this is just what will gleaso the younger element Is it not ideal christmas weather with its attendant snow balling and sleigh riding the programs in the different rooms will have the happy christmas time as a basis for all the work whether in art singing or reciting the exhibit this year in art and paper construction work is most commendable and reflects great credit both upon teachers and pupils the art work especially has been brought up to a high standard A great improvement is noticed in music in the schools and tor the christmas programs appropriate songs will be given where there are orchestras in the schools little concerts aro being given too much cannot bo said in eralso of the artistic decoration work la the various departments there is a noticeable absence ot the cheap chromes and calendars and an increase in more works of art much of the decorating has been done with drawings and art work of the pupils themselves today the public schools close for two weeks the first week in january all the public school teachers will attend the state institute to bo held in salt lae city A special train will carry the ogden contingent down to alon leaving here at 9 a m wednesday jan ath 1905 they will make their headquarters at the allson hotel STATE industrial SCHOOL there will bo a public entertainment at the school today and everybody who is interested in the work is invited to attend the program it will be held in the gymnasium in one end of the booc a stage has been erected upon which the young performers will appear the program will consist ot quartette solos recitations drills etc one special feature of the program will be a vaudeville sketch by one of the boys by the name of declercq formerly a specialty artist on the stage the girls have been drilled by mrs helen 11 walto and under her direction will give a drill and an attitude march eight of the boys have been coached by mr J E thompson and under his able direction will give a zouave drill on saturday afternoon sports of various kinds will be indulged in by the boys and girls and in the evening the hearts of the young people will bo made glad by a grand christmas tree it is announced that the madison school orchestra and miss delia aluad pianist will assist in the program institution FOR DEAF AND BLIND A grand program will be given saturday evening commencing at the program will consist ol 01 songs by the blind recitations by the deaf given orally and by the dumb in signs santa claua will be there and give a present to every pupil and each will also be the happy recipient ot a sack of candy and nuts sunday morning christmas exercises will be held in the chapel and appropriate services gone through on monday evening the pupils will be given the regular christmas party in the gymnasium the success of the yule tide festivities Is dependent la a great measure upon the teachers on duty mr J P bush mr J A weaver and miss jean cox there will be no vacation as in the other schools but during the holidays school will be dismissed promptly at noon instead 0 at 2 as formerly SACKED HEART ACADEMY appropriate christmas exercises were held yesterday afternoon the various numbers given show what marked improvement the students have been mactag during the past few months and speak in eloquent praise of the work ot the sisters many of the pupils have gone to their homes in the surrounding states to spend the yule
