Show celebration AT NORTH OGDEN VERY PLEASING AND ENTERTAIN ING PROGRAM IS CARRIED OUT abraham chadwick an old resident dies in that village north ogden july 5 1904 Tho na alons birthday was celebrated in our town yesterday in a very pleasing and entertaining manner and reflected much credit on tho untiring put forth by the committee the exercises in the forenoon were held in the meeting under the direction of joseph barker the declaration la of independence was read by miss nettle gibson and ahe usual oration was substituted by a historical cannatta can entitled columbia and represented in an instructive manner by the pupils of the day school the different phases of our nations life these and other numbers interspersed with excellent amual by the band and ward choir under tho leadership respectively of abas storey and A G berrett made up the forenoon exercises the afternoon was very pleasantly spent at the park with various outdoor sports and games closing with a dance in the evening in the jones hall we are again called upon to chronicle another death in our midst this time one of our roost aged and highly respected citizens abraham chadwick lie was born of chadwick and esther in blakely lancashire england march 30 1821 nd therefore had i cached the ripe old age of 83 years three months and our days the days of his youth were spent in a reworks de works up to the age of 15 when he changed to an apprenticeship in the tailoring working at that trade until his marriage in december 1810 18 10 to mary burton they both embraced the gospel as revealed in the last days and february 5 1842 set sail for america in the ship hope in a company of souls under the direction of elder burnham and arrived at new orleans april 1 and 10 days later boarded the steam vessel la for st louis where he took up his adopted trade remaining there and keeping head for the elders for a number of years during thai time he was favored with the privilege of entertaining apostle orson on his return from jerusalem whither he had gone to dedicate that land for the return of the jews september 4 1818 they resumed their journey purchasing land and locating for a while in coun cil bluffs here his wife mary burton tell a victim to the ravages of cholera july 14 december 15 of the same year he was married to mary by orson hyde and continued their journey to the valley and arrived in salt lake city october 11 1851 where they remained three years april 6 mr chadwick played in the band at the laying of the corner atones of the salt lake temple october 14 1853 he accepted a settling mission to the fort country returning august 9 1854 soon after his return two of his children died from scarlet fever mr chadwick and his wife continued their journey northward stopping tor awhile in brigham fort and arrived in north ogden april 4 1855 where he has resided up to the ume of his death an honored and highly respected citizen he was also member of the band that made music tor the celebration at big cottonwood july 24 1857 when tidings of the approach of johnsons army was made known during his 40 years sojourn in north ogden he has done much towards its up building as canal president and home builder and in tho bishopric of the ward he leaves a host of relatives and friends numbering 26 children hundreds of grand and great grandchildren to emulate his example |
