| Show DECLINE IN PRICE OF FOOD ARTICLES prices of iho principal articles ot domestic consumption or for use ln domestic manufacture show a decline in may 1901 as compared with may 1903 except those of farm production and a few ot foreign production imported for use in manufacturing tho department of commerce and labor presents through its bureau of statistics each month a series of price quotations on some seventy five leading articles and grades of articles the quotations which aro wholesale rates in tho leading markets of the country are presented foe each week in the current month and thus give opportunity to compare price conditions at any given date with the corresponding date of the preceding year the prices quoted arc in moat cases the wholesale rates in the new york markets those of cattle and hides are prices in the chicago market of the various grades of iron and steel those of the great manufacturing sections in which they are produced of cotton and rice the prices given are those in new orleans and new york respectively and of wool the prices given are those in the boston market j comparison of the prices named in these tables for the last week of may 1904 with abo first week of may 1903 shows an advance in prices of wheat corn oats cotton wool nativo steers cows and certain grades of aidea also in coffee india rubber petroleum tr both crude and refined sug aej both raw and refined lead and silver the above named are all hie articles which show an advance the articles which show no change are lute and steel rails articles which show a decline are family beef mess pork lard tallow alco rice tea pig iron both bessemer and southern foundry iron bars steel bars steel billets tin plates coke raw silk mohair maella hemp sisal hemp hides of certain grades leather of all grades copper tin and spelter practically all tho farm products in their natural state show an advance including cattle though beef pork and lard show a decline A large portion of the grades of hides show an advance though leather of all grades shows a decline crude petroleum shows an advance from per barrel to per barrel and refined petroleum in cases an advance from cents per gallon to 1085 cents per gallon but ie fined petroleum in barrels shows a decline from cents per gallon to cents per gallon Musco vados sugar of 89 degrees polarization lariza tion imported shows an advance from cents per pound to acta per pound of 6 per cent polarization from cents per ib to cents per pound and granulated sugar shows an advance from cents per pound to canta per pound |
