veto of the resolution increasing the treasurers Treasur ers bahry came up at the council meeting last night and on motion of councilman carr va referred to the finance committee the mayor sent in a communication in regard to the claim of ogden city vs the rio grande western railroad company in reference to the damages done the fire apparatus and burning of the two horses at the pintsch gas plant fire which the council requested the mayor to adjust and the latter stated he had not been able to come to any settlement with the claim agent of the road he recommended that the matter be referred to the city attorney to investigate and bring suit the communication was referred to the fire committee with city attorney added the sextons Sex tons report was received and filed A report waa received fram the city engineer to the effect that some definite action must be taken at once in regard to the spring tank on twenty fourth street hill and he stated that it will be necessary to dig out all the old wood work of said spring tank rebuild with rock and cement put tin concrete cover with cast iron manhole and connect up with such pipes and valves and boxes as may be needed all of which will cost from to according to difficulties encountered in connection with this report there was submitted letter from sirs M J stevens in a aich she agreed to pay not more than 20 or 25 as her bare of the considerable discussion over whether contractor oneil should be given the contract lor the excavating of the north side of twenty fifth as well as the south side of that street councilmen nye williams and powers favored the giving of the contract for the north side to mr aneil a well as the south side as they say mr oneil could do it cheaper and chambers said air aneil was getting some teams from outside of the city they are not objecting to mr oneil getting the work out object to him getting teams from outside of the city and they would not object to him doing the work if he had received it in open competition with other men and teamsters in the city it seemed to be an impression with those councilmen favoring giving all the work to oneil that the opposition was inspired by the union teamsters of ogden who will not work for mr oceil unless the nonunion non union teamsters are discharged there was considerable discussion on the matter and finally it was disposed of by ar motion to
