Show SENATOR CLARK HAS ACCEPTED presidency chairman F J kiesel of the executive committee of the eleventh irrigation congress announces that the montana statesman has signified his willingness to wield the gavel time of commencing the congress postponed from sept 8 to 14 well attended and enthusiastic meeting for arrangements held last night A well attended and enthusiastic meeting of business men convened at the court room in alie county court house last evening there were also present a committee from the federated trades mayor Glasa iann called the meeting to order and briefly stated that the object of the meeting was to arrange for the reception and entertainment ot the delegates to the eleventh irrigation congress vi aich is to convene in this city next he also said that ample notice had been given everyone eo that later a hen some are invited to contribute there will be no kick angus T was chosen as permanent chairman of the meeting and willis beardsley secretary chairman Cha irwan wright eaid that the birst thing to do was the appointment of committees to make arrangements for the coming congress on motion of L dark joseph was appointed chairman of the finance committee with the authority to choose the balance of that committee later on motion of sir Glas maim senator kiesel waa added to that committee mr kiesel stated that as a member and chairman of the executive committee of the congress ho is also ex a member of all committees and under the law he has the handling of all of the funds ie said that he will not shirk any of the duties that are imposed apon him he called attention to the face that this is a big movement to advertise the city and as the avowed object of the weber club is to fully make such advertisement verti a time could not be thought of than when the city is visited by the scores ot noted and prominent newspaper correspondents spon dents and delegates from every stale in the union the congress has been endorsed by the president and that endorsement dor counts for much the coming congress said mr kiesel is the outcome of th last congress at colorado springs and the ewh delegation worked hard to get the congress for utah among the delegates tocol to col orado springs were some prominent men w ho wished to merge the irrigation con gross which is a national affair the trans mississippi congress which is a sectional movement the utah delegation went in to defeat this plan and as a result they antagonized some of the mergers alter defeating the merger 1 l was easy for us to get the place of meeting for the next for tills city the greatest honor that we can confer in this congress is the presidency mr of kalt lake city was chosen acut he became ill and on september ath he resigned and declared ilia intention of spending tho en tiling year in europe in his letter ot resignation he stated that all his influence and hopes were with this congress end he enclosed a check for after this resignation I 1 was compelled to go before the legislature and tor the arst time in the history of the state that body appropriated money to aid in a convention of general benefit when the appropriation bill went before the governor he hesitated about signing it until it was pointed out to him that the benefits to the state would be direct when president visited 0 den I 1 had the honor to be introduced to him and I 1 asked him a few words in regard to our congram con greM you all heard what he eaid he endorsed it that endorsement means much to us as coining from the nations chief some ot the official in washington have been antagonizing the congress inspired by those men who were angered at the defeating of the merger at colorado springs these men spread in washington the report that it is but ft scheme to advertise but the president has now put the seal of his approval upon the congress he stated that this movement is nearly equal to the homestead entry acts in benefits bene tits to the citizens I 1 take issue yuth that and say that it excels that act the homestead entry act had everything to favor it the irrigation movement has been worked up against adverse As president holme has resigned becomes necessary to appoint a prem dent such a president must be ft prominent man one of national reputation and one that is identified with the movement and the part of the country that will be most secretary beardsley readi the holding in of the eleventh beai ion of national irrigation congress Is an opportune time for the citizens of utah and especially the people of ogden to demon strate to the thousands of strangers who will nt that time visit ogden the sources resources re the development and the po s of our preat in agricultural horticultural and manufacturer ot fruits cereals and augar b it that aliis inching ftc the people assembled in order td if ite a definite plan of action jiuu to provide support for alto great do litre by fully and acknowledge ho obligation wo own to hon fra r fortha ln effort he has put forth in and about the holding of a great congress at og dea and we most heartily endorse all that he haa done and promise him suo support in whatever way he may demand our aid to carry to a successful culmination the work so well begun be it resolved that we do hereby acknowledge the munificent appropriation made by the last session ol 01 the utah legislature for the purpose of aiding the baid congress and we pledge in conformity with the terms of aid appropriation that we will uso our utmost effort to comply with ilie conditions therein stated and further be it resolved that in furtherance of the purpose of said congress we cordially invite the operation cooperation co of every locality in the west especially of utah to the end that the influence of that great body may too spread throughout the arid districts of the rocky mountains the resolution was unanimously passed senator kiesel thea introduced the following resolution whereas senator W A clark of montana has signified his acceptance of the presidency of the eleventh national irrigation congress tendered him by the executive committee of that congress now therefore be it resolved that we the citizens ot ogden in mass meeting assembled for the purpose ot arranging for the reception and entertainment of the delegates to the eleventh national irrigation congress which meets in this city next september do hereby extend to senator clark our most hearty and loyal support in ais new duties and be it further resolved Ke solved that we pledge the good will of the citizens not this city and county but the entire state of utah as well to the aid and assistance of the work of the forthcoming congress meaning as it does so much not only to our own fair state of utah but to the entire great west aa well the above resolution was adopted unanimously and later in the evening on the motion of senator kipaul the secretary was instructed to telegraph the same to senator clark at butte mont senator kichel then called attention to the fact anat there were present some members of the trades aad that they had approached bhim and asked that they might a place in the arrangements he thought that this would be pleasing td senator clark who had always ibsen t friend to labor mr flewelling of he committee from the federated trades eaid that as one of the committee ho thought chat he could promise that the unions would le glad to assist in and that aliey might postpone their labor daiy diy celebration until the week of the congress in order to arave the parade on that day if the parade part 0 the congress is turned to them they will try hard to have a good solid parade mayor glasmann moved that th at the parade and decorations be turned over to the trades assembly and eliat the members of that assembly present be given places on all committees in making his motion he paid a high tribute to the successful labor day celebration of iwo years ago and eaid that the labor organizations would Burely make a success of the event councilman shot moved that as a substitute to the previous motion the labor eions be invited to parade on a day and under such conditions
