index to the character of the president and some that revealed the true nature of some others one of the latter is connected with the appearance of a cynical article in a weekly sheet of salt lake HIS half a dozen prominent citizens just in the spirit of levity now who do you say wrote that protest each one has answered s why eliat is the sourness and in george JI ansons nature and coming to the now sir mayor said one why aid you tail to exalt our distinguished citizen and main guy with a seat in the carriage the president t 1 will tell broke in a bystander there was danger of haason overshadowing the president in importance and to avoid a calamity BO distressing the mayor was forced to keep his royal nibs in the background and then there was a laugh all around THE RECEPTION COMMITTEE the presidents secretary had sent woid that the handshaking hand shaking must be limited to a small committee say not to exceed live the ogden reception committee consisted of thirty and were lined up facing the train ohp president after he had greeted senator clark and the e committee of five was informed by the mayor that ogden had increased the reception committee to thirty but they waived the right to shake hands unless the president volunteered his hand first and if he did there would be no pumping of the arm which ia so annoying when a large number grasp his hand in urn while the wai engaged in making his speech several of the newspapermen of the presidential party had remained at ho cars not desiring dec iring to take part in the parade and among them was one ly tho name of martin who wa enjoying a siesta on the cw aide of the car one of the specials who had been appointed for tho day had noticed martin on the platform jut after the train had arrived arid thought he aw him wink at a crook who was elrd arrested for pick ing pockets the got the idea that martin wa a confederate ot the pickpocket and after the criminal was landed in jail the officer want back to the train and demanded to be allowed to it the result wa that he foahd martin in the midst of hi bista kid rudely aroused him then he led martin off on the way to the station while the rest of the newspapermen jeered the victim ai he btag 11 away they ul claimed any of him and gave the special to that they dij not know him and that probably one of alin bad crowd allowed ha loko to bcd until
