Show DRYDEN SUCCEEDS SEWELL trenton X J jan 24 the republican caucus to select a candidate for united baates senator to be supported during the present session of the legislature to succeed the lato senator selected on the nineteenth ballot john r dryden of newark president of the prudential insurance company mr dryden on the nineteenth ballot received exactly the necessary twenty two votes his rivals were state senator stokes of cumberland county ana former states attorney general john W griggs congressman gardner ex sheriff david baird of and barker gummere of mercer were also in the field and while they received a fair amount ot support in the early balloting it was at no time doubted that the contest was between dryden stokes and griggs the republicans have a majority on joint ballot of forty five which assures the election of mr dryden as ane caucus action is binding |
