Show r WEBER COUNTY OLD FOLKS THEY HAVE A GOOD AT SALTAIR YESTERDAY the old folks excursion now an annual feature of this and other counties of the state occurred yesterday weber dails and salt lake counties joining for a trip to Salta lr the committee ot weber stake were busy tor a week preparing to care for the old veterans and when tuesday morning came they flocked in from the settlements and the city wards reaching the depot in good time tor the train which left ogden shortly after 9 by actual count there were old folks on the train over 70 years of age as designated by their badges of red blue and white the first named for those between 70 and 80 the blue between 80 and 90 and the white for those over 90 years of age there were fully as many in attendance accompanying the old people making a trainload from weber stake of some people the trip was exceedingly pleasant in going the R G W ry company not only furnishing the transportation tor those over 70 but the officials doing all in their power to make the excursion a pleasure to the aged they had their hands full however tor at every station between ogden and salt lake the numbers were increased while at salt lake a large number of excursion cars packed with humanity awaited the arrival from the north but they did it well it was on the return trip where the train became overcrowded over crowded and the distance from to salt lake became almost a hardship to some of the more aged but on reaching salt lake the congested condition of the train was relieved several additional cars were attached and the trip to ogden which occupied just three hours was made in comparative comfort at the general committee had arranged a semicircle semi circle of tables stretching from the center of the pavilion to the west end and presided over by a host of sisters at which the old people were seated here they obtained rest and refreshments the excursion was so exceptionally large that some difficulty was experienced in locating all who came tout the committee certainly did themselves proud in the systematic manner in which such a crowd was cared for after the refreshments the old people took in the beauties of the resort which many of them were then visiting for the first time throughout it may be said that a most enjoyable time was granted the old people even though some of them felt extremely fatigued as the train pulled in at ogden at 10 p m the general committee the various stake committees the railway company and its officials the people and the aids one and all deserve credit for the offing granted the old folks of the stake tor 1901 |
