Show MONTANA STOCK SITUATION STOCK RAISERS ARE WELL SATISFIED WITH OUTLOOK well sir eaid M D wilson of montana last night 1 I dont know of a winter where stock in the northern part of the country has done so well as they have this season usually stock men begin to get their cattle in and feed them not later than the first ot november but this winter stock has been allowed to run on tho public ranges all winter and are now in a fairly good condition you understand that in the northern part ol 01 the state there Is a great amount of grass and even though there is a considerable fall of snow cattle will do well on the common if they have some kind of shelter or wand bieak to protect them from the piercing winds which sometimes sweep over that section providing of course the snow Is not so deep but what the stock can find the feed with but little effort As a rule there Is n good class of cattle throughout our state and what we would consider being in good condition only is called good beef in some sections cf the country where I 1 have been the stock from our elate has tor years been shipped to and oom tho very bet nelces 1 city and chicago markets and a great many are shipped ethere at the present time but a number of cattle men have found a good market jn portland and seattle that Is a good i town a great deal ot shipping is done from there and since we got the philippine islands the trade in that direction Is increasing to a wonderful extent and montana beef cattle find a ready market there at good prices any time that point Is nearer home than either kansas city or chicago the freight charges are less and when the beet goes to seattle the most money is made we have experienced no slump lu the cattle market so far and dont expect to see one but of course no one can tell when prices are going to drop on any commodity although as long as the present administration has hold of the reins of the government we expect to see everybody doing well especially ally the cattle and sheep men and dont look for any decrease in the present good price of cattle A number ot utah stockmen stoc kmen have moved their stock from this stole up into our country and as tar as I 1 have been able to learn they are all doing exceedingly well ril tell you lots of the cattle shipped here looked mighty thin when they reached their destination hut after being on good ranges for a while made a fairly good showing they were on an average tolerably well bred stock but they had been half starved on some of these barren deserts until it Is a surprise that they were even as good as they appeared when arriving but they are all tight now and rank with cattle |
