| Show MORGAN COMING new york june 20 one of the firm of J P morgan co of whom in equity was made ads recently Uy eald said 1 mr morgan will be ib here la in blout out thre three weeks no def lnita willing date hia been decided upon as yet however american manufacturers of tin plate are making king rapid gains in thedr attempt to enter the foreign markets ot of the world to be sure sura their exports are yet small as compared with the domestic demand which they are meeting tout but they are again reducing the imports which tempora temporarily ril J in creais ed in 1900 under the excessive demand and extremely high price ot of materials and are at the same time increasing their thedr exports in a manner which proves interesting to those who have watched the development ot this comparatively new industry in the united states the figures of 0 the treasury bureau of statistics show that the exports ot of tin plates from the united states which in the ten months ending with april 1899 amounted to only pounds and in the ten months ending with april 1900 to pounds were in the ten months ending with april 1901 pounds in imports ot of tin plates the figures for the ten months show a material decrease as r compared om pared with the qua quantity city imported during the same period of the pre preceding coding fiscal year being pounds as compared with pounds tor for the ten months period ot of last year our total ot of tin plate in the fiscal year 1901 seem likely to be from 8 to 10 times those of 1899 while the importations ot of tin plates into the united states promise to be little more than one tenth those ot of 1891 the year ot of the largest importation impartation ot of tin plates into the united states and but about one fifth ot of the average annual importation during the five years prior to the establishment of 0 the tin plate industry in the united states the record ot of tin plate prices during the past two years shows a remarkable fluctuation largely due to the unusually high price ot of material in 1900 quotations tor for tin plates furnished to the treasury bureau ot of statistics show the price per box ot of pounds ot of tin plates ot of bessemer steel in new york in april 1901 aa as the uniform price since january 1 1901 in january 1900 the price was while in january 1898 it was meantime the price of straits tin used in the manufacture ot of tin plate has increased from per pound in january 1898 to in irk july 1900 and thence downward to on oa april 19 1901 and again advancing to on june 1 1901 while steel billets increased in price from 15 per ton in january 1898 fo to 33 35 per ton in fix january 1900 since which date the price has fluctuated considerably finally becoming practically stat stationary lory at 28 per ton in march 1901 |
