although the plans of the great lake cut oil were arranged in detail tor the completion ot the great work BO that their carrying out rested entirely with the engineers and constructing department there were sull a few doubting in this vicinity who could not believe but that the death ot C P huntington would interfere with the work now that his place on the board of directors has been filled and the board reorganized the first move under the new regime will set at rest the doubts of even these few J C stubbs II 11 E huntington and other officials ot the road who have been in chicago and new york since president Hunting tons death returned to the coast this week and work on the cutoff cut off will be started within two weeks ana under the full sanction and knowledge of these officials mr T 1 wilson the right of way agent Is expected to return to ogden from los angeles between the and of this month he will at once either close up the deal tor the right of way with the property owners who are still holding out or it be finds it impossible to negotiate with them will commence condemnation proceedings this legal action will in no way interfere with the commencement of work as the company will cross the land after filing a bond with the court for the settlement of any damages which may 1 be adjudged to the owners E R hun f tar who Is located in the first national bank building has had charge of the right of way work during mr Wll sons absence mr wilson will be accompanied on hag return by engineers who will at once commence the cross sectioning of the route and claying flaying it out tor the commencement men cement of grading the civil engineers on the southern pacific have a division of labor that requires their attention only to one line of their profession fes sion mr griffiths who had charge of the survey of the different routes tor ane cut oft attends exclusively to that branch of the work tor the southern pacific system the engineers who will be here next week to begin cross sec dioning and laying off of the route for grades have that branch for the entire system under their exclusive supervision and so on through all branches of the work all of them working under the immediate direction of chief engineer hood of course as stated in a previous arl tide in the standard all work will start from the ogden end of the cutoff the grading will closely follow the work ot the engineers gravel tor the grade will be brought from the gravel pits at promontory and hauling of gravel from that place will start wathla a few days some of the rails to be used in track laying will be brought from the coast enough to go ahead with the work while the larger quantity will come irom the east the employment agencies will reap no profit from furnishing laborers tor the work as the will at first be within the corporation lines of ogden city and can be easily reached from this city at any time during the course ot construction at first only a comparatively ively small force will be put to work on the grade probably about but the number will be increased rapidly as the work advances and the track men go to work the standard Is now enabled to give the names ot the owners ot the land crossed by the right ot way with the sections in which the land lays the names start from the diversion from the main line north ot ogden river and follow the route to the lake chore they are as follows in section 19 township C north range one hekt the route starts on the land of richard hill and them crosina cro sica in the same section land owned by T C davedson Dav ldson C V mrs A peterson and mrs in section 24 township 0 2 west the first land crossed is owned by mrs II olmes the route then crosses the river on the land ot H D Patter on this tract Is a sand hill through which a cut feet in length will be made in section 23 township six north range two west the route crosses the property ol 01 archie mcfarland thomas S jones awl the greenwell Grcen well in section 21 township six north range two fesij the route crosses property ot james bennington richard mills william fronk F stevens vens thomas and W A fronk in section 6 north crossed Is owned by mrs royl george newey john C measures joseph gabson james mcfarland the route then crosses the river tor the second time and trespasses the land of alonzo knight which Is an extensive orchard and the sanders estate in township six mortn range three west the route passes through in section 24 land owned knight and E W wade in section 23 mrs ransford smiths property section 22 property owned by J W ashton dee eret savings bank and B W allson in section 21 alvin Hud mans jand section 20 richard slater and robert cc wan own the barid in section 19 fred foy owns the land and it Is the layt piece of surveyed ground in section 19 the cutoff cut off route encounters the raised ground south of lettle mountain sections 24 and 23 of township 6 north and range 4 west were formed by the receding of the lake waters and the land is government land and over a part of these sections the trestle work will extend it Is understood that a move Is on toot among a clique ot ogden toia to establish a resort on these sections but whether this would be feasible depends upon the action of the southern pacific in regard to the stopping of trains at that point or whether the people would patronize that in preference to the more magnificent one to be established on promontory point |
