Show froman OH HE TOSS mrs M jane il visits the scene of her pioneer struggles came here in the fall of 1847 Is now a resident of auburn placer county california mrs M jane il who has been visiting in ogden tor a few days past with the families of jesse S and alex brown went west today to her home at auburn placer county california she was accompanied by her youngest daughter and by her brother W H crow of flute county utah and J J flack a prominent citizen of franklin idaho who Is a cousin of mrs il mrs il enjoys the unique distinction of being the first white woman who ever lived in the weber valley she was born and raised in perry county illinois and was there married in the early to mr and by him had two sona before their migration west about this time mrs ils father and his entire family became converted to the tenets of the mormon church and in april of 1846 they joined an independent company of pioneers who moved westward to escape the persecutions against the cormons mormons incident to those times although mr and mrs il did not embrace the religion they joined the party and it came west under the leadership of parley P pratt at laralle Lar amle wyoming a mountaineer whom they met told them hat a better route would be further southward and he guided them through to the valley of th e great salt lake by the way of what is now pueblo col and central utah they entered salt lake valley on july 22 1847 two days ahead of brigham young and his company on the alth of august of that year one of her sons was drowned in the city creek and on the of the same month mrs gave birth to a daughter by some this child is said to be the first one born in the valley but mrs il said today that a mrs stacle gave birth to one a few in the tall of 1847 the came to weber valley and settled on the banks of the weber river she was the first white women who ever entered the valley in 1849 they removed to auburn placer county illinois where mr il amassed a fortune and his family still reside he died last wlater at that place W II 11 crow mrs ils brother has been tor yeara one of tap pioneer residents of oal quae a crowd assembled at the depot to see the party away among whom were jesse S brown who accompanied the to california in 1849 and mrs brown aiho also came to weber valley in 1847 mr brown stated that those who accompanied the lla to california in 1849 were himself his brothers alex and dahll and moses and george thatcher |
