Show FREIGHT HANDLERS WILL STRIKE IF THEIR DEMANDS ARE NOT GRANTED new york july 25 at a meeting of abo striking freight handlers of the pennsylvania railroad piers on north river it was agreed that it the de of the men tor an increase of wages from 17 to 20 cents per hour were not complied with this morning the strikers now out will be joined by the 1000 freight handlers employed by the pennsylvania company in jersey city representatives of the baltimore ohio erie railway and other big lines were present at the meeting and reported that the freight handlers on all these lines were ready to go out on a sympathetic strike at a moments notice eight hundred men attended the meeting it was decided that the strike be confined to the pennsylvania co as it was thought that by crippling its freight service it would give in rather than see its business go to rival lines however it the pennsylvania docs not yield today it was said that a general tie up would result on the piers of every big railroad company on the north river front at both sides of the river this will throw over men out of work and seriously effect business in this city |
