Show MERCHANTS IN EVIDENCE TRY TO GET STRIKERS AT CHEYENNE TO SETTLE A special dispatch from cheyenne says an effort was made here today by the business men ot cheyenne to bring the strike of the union pacific to a close they requested the man to resume work promising to use their influence with the railroad company to have licurs liours and wages adjusted so that the cheyenne scale would be satisfactory to the men and on an equitable basis with other places on tho line the men held meetings last night to consider the offer the boilermakers boller makers rejected it and decided to continue the strike the machinists at a late thour arrived at no conclusion but it is believed that they will take the same action as tho boilermakers the men assert tonight that the strike has now been sanctioned by tho grand lodges of tho two organizations and that other shops on the line ot the union pacific will now assist in the the shops are running with about men short northern pacific division superintendents to the number of about a dozen are out together on a tour 0 inspection they will look over their road and see just bow it stands the plan of mr huntington to secure a railroad from ocean to ocean under his personal management Is likely to make some interesting railroad news to people of this part of the country pretty soon |
