Show GOULDS STEAMSHIP LINES st louis mo june 28 A special to the republic from dallas texas says L S thorne third vice president and general manager ot the texas pacific railway has returned to headquarters at dallas after a trip to new orleans concerning the reported intention of the goulds to establish a steamship line from the atlantic seaboard to the gulf he said it should be understood that this question has been pending for some time and Is by no means a now idea the establishment ot such a alno 0 steamers Is among the contemplated projects ol 01 the goulds but it must be remembered that a great deal is involved in such an enterprise enormous capital united extraordinary tra ordinary facilities seems capable ot consummating any enter ot course with magical rapidity but it takes much time to build up railroads and steamship lines and in the present instance two years at least would be necessary tor the building ot the line the interests ot the goulds in part are assuming such magnitude ot the country as to render this step imperative As to the port ot entry in tha evl there Is nothing authentic as between galveston and new orleans but the putting on of euch a line Is a vital question with the goulds who are giving it careful study |
