| Show Nancy McClain McCIain Takes Part in inGS inGS inGS GS Roundup Miss fiss Nancy McClain daughter daugh daush- I ter tel of Mr and Mrs Hall McClain McClain Mc Mc- I ICia Cia Clain in of or Bountiful joined 21 other senior Girl Scouts from throughout the stale state for a special special special cial Girl Scout Senior Roundup training session at at Girl Scout I Farm House at Mountain Dell near Salt Lake City this past week end The two days of special special special cial training included demonstrations demonstrations demon demon- and practice in charcoal charcoal char char- coal fire building preparing and serving of or meals and clean cleanup up table setting dish washing pitching tents singing and folk dancing and special reports on Utah Girl Scout Council organization organization and financing I THIS TillS SESSION was the final one for or the 22 before the selectIon selection selection I tion of oC one patrol of eight senior senior sen sen- I Girl Scouts as Utah's participants participants participants par par- in the 1962 Girl Scout Senior Roundup at Button Bay State Park Vt on the shores of Lake Champlain A special selections committee commit commit- tee will be responsible for picking picking pick pick- ing the Utah patrol They will join almost girls girls' and 1500 adults from all over the world at the camp site on Lake Champlain the last two weeks of July Here they will pitch tents cook out doors sing around the campfires and along the trails engage in arts and craft activities s s i ion o n groups and many other special program events carrying out the birthday anniversary and Roundup theme Honor the Past Serve the Future ROUNDUP held every three years stands as a Ii goal for or every every ev ev- ery cry Girl Scout according to Nancy She feels that attendance attendance attend attend- ance at a Roundup session is the highest goal a senior Girl Scout can attain and she she she-is is hoping hoping hoping hop hop- ing she will be one of the eight selected to go to Vermont In July Nanc Nancy has been a Girl Scout for about ten years ever since she was in the second grade and her mother has been in the program right light along with her all of oC that time Mrs 1 McClain McClain Mc Mc- Clain has been a troop leader member of the thc program committee com corn secretary of the former Salt Lake Council and presently present present- ly is a member of the public relations committee of the Utah tah Girl Scout Council and the contact contact con con- tact person with Girl Scout equipment agencies in Utah Ive lIve been in Girl Gir Scouting all aU these years explains Nancy Nancy Nancy Nan Nan- cy because I like the program pro pro- gram It has certainly helped to develop me as a person I Ii Ilove Ilove i love ve the out doors doors of-doors and I hope to become a teacher or director of or recreation so this program is contributing to m my enjoyment enjoyment enjoy enjoy- ment of life now and my preparation preparation preparation prep prep- for Cor the future TIlE THE TRAINING a m nt for lor Roundup has been lots of or fun lun for all the girls Nancy re re- re ports She says it has been work too tOOl because they have had to learn some new things but it uil has all been interesting and md challenging Nancy is working hard to be selected as one of the Utah patrol and is looking forward to the decision of the selections committee this next week If she is selected she will leave Utah July 16 joining a special trainload of senior Girl Scouts heading for Cor a to never forgotten be-forgotten experience of attending attending attending at at- tending a Girl Scout Senior Roundup Eight of the 22 girls will be selected this thus next week and will carry carryon on an even more intene intensive sire sive s e training training- program to prepare prepare prepare pre pre- pare them to represent Utah Girl Scouting at Roundup |
