Show MUSTERING OUT volunteers all the men in the philippines will be sent home rhey include batteries A and B of utah C their places to be taken by regu tars lars regiments in cuba and porto rico to be relieved from duty washington dec 22 the war department part ment has not yet made definite 6 plans for the muster out of the L volunteers which was decided upon at the cabinet meeting yesterday but Is understood that the work will be pretty well mapped out by the first of the year the time required to complete the muster out will depend upon whether the department adopts the plan of a three months furlough or an immediate discharge with two months extra pay as suggested by congressman hull there are a number of regiments which have already returned from foreign service and are awaiting their discharge in this country among those are the first engineers of new york and the sixth massachusetts at boston these it is understood are slated for early discharge it has been practically decided also to muster out all the volunteers in the philippines as fast as they can be replaced with regulars so as not to hamper the military administration of the islands the regiments on the station at present are company A U S engineer battalion troops E C G 1 I K and L fourth united states cavalry batteries G 11 K and L of the third and D and G of the sixth united states artillery the astor battery which has already been ordered home batteries A and D california A and D utah and first wyoming artillery fourteenth eighteenth and twenty third united states infantry first california first colorado first idaho fifty first iowa twentieth kansas thirteenth minnesota first montana first nebraska first north dakota second oregon tenth pennsylvania i first south dakota first tennessee first washington and first wyoming infantry following the discharge of the regiments on the philippine station it Is understood the volunteer troops in tho the west indies will be mustered out tho the volunteer regiments now on this station are the eighth illinois colored infantry and the twenty third kansas colored santiago de cuba third united slates states engineers companies nies B 1 I L I 1 and M matanzas cuba second U S volunteer infantry ninth U B volunteer colored infantry and third company signal corps santiago io to cuba fourth company signal corps F porto rico and fifteenth company signal corps havana cuba at honolulu there are now stationed companies I 1 K 1 L and M united states volunteer engineers while the first and eighteenth companies bignal corps are on tho the manila station |
