finally opened up at two hours previous were put in in the mayors private office where ibe matter of ordinances and appointments came up for consideration when the council did meet the ordinance a were rushed through and the council adjourned jour ned meeting in second session fifteen later when the mayor had sinned the ordinances and wrote oat his list ol 01 appointments the appointments were not confirmed which was a great surprise to the mayor and after the adjournment them were number ot warm wordy altercations between members of the council and the mayor each side charged the other company mr mckay said that about a week ago he had e conference with the committee on laws a proposed ordinance or franchise which was presented to the old council he expressed ignorance of the matter of the city and its licensing ordinance and stated that what be wanted to find out was what objection the city council had to the proposed franchise there was some time yet before the expiration ot the old franchise franch iee but they wanted to know what was to be done as they had a lot bonded and they intended to erect a building designated especially for telephone ser vice if they are to get a franchise they will do these things but if not they do not want to make farther permanent improvements he continued and read ibo ordinance in force and then baij the number of telephones in ogden you only pay tax t mr murray said this was including the general expenses of the officers of the company proportionally charged according to business busi nesa after a few more remarks president broening Bro aning called upon the committee on laws for information chairman brewer of that committee stated that the committee had decided that nothing be done at present regarding the franchise jones moved that the committee on laws be instructed to make come report on the matter at the next meeting woolley counseled delay and tones thought that the telephone company should bave their answer as soon BB possible brewer with jones i ash did not noc want to be considered as opposed to any corporation but we are here representing the people of ogden and not the corporation I 1 dout the council is ready to grant a i franchise at this time the motion was lost the council then adjourned fo fifteen minutes SESSION the council met at 1140 and the following appointments by the mayor ere
