| Show THE MEETING LAST reading the report of the merchants mor chants and courtil last night it will be seen that the meeting was a failure at least so far aa results go it appears that there were no leaders tor conciliation on either aide plainly speaking the merchants used a crowbar instead of a diplomatic hand it beems both aides had prepared themselves to maintain their present attitude the merchants attacked the license and some individual members of the council while the council defended its position on the license ordinance THE regrets that no satisfactory result was obtained we believe that if each side waa to agree to meet the other half way that a license ordinance could by formed thai would be acceptable to both the merchants and the council in order thai it may be fully discussed and all sides may have a fair bearing THE STANDARD offers the use of its columns for the discussion of the license proposition from present indications the council and the merchants are farther apart than ever probably a thorough discussion of this matter would bring about a spirit of fairness that would lead to a satisfactory conclusion |
