Show WHOSE SON IS HE at an early a after parents had sought him sorrowing for three days and fondd him in the temple conversing with the doctors hearing and asking questions being reproached by his mother for the anxiety which he had caused her to feel he replied know ye not that I 1 must be about my fathers business mary did not understand his words bat he treasured them up in her heart luke 3 41 it must have been in very tender years that christ first conceived the thought that lay at the foundation of what proved to be his mission in the world that was the thought of god as fatherhood the poets had already eung of man as the as says at athens but their thought was simply poetry while that of christ was animated by all that makes up the consciousness of real life with christ it was no mere poetic figure but a living fact at twelve years of age he sought to be about my fathers business whatever his being begotten by the ghost should signify as a matter of fact its substance Is fulfilled in the endowment of his spiritual nature with the higher and truer meanings of the scriptures that were the study and the soul nourishment of the children of abraham that beautiful spirit the virgin alary had we read treasured them up in her heart and the universal spirit of life had given them psychical distinctness in the new life that was wondrously thrilled with the emotions and thoughts of the mothers heart the child was cast in the common human mould but marked with the electric power and spiritual significance of the entire dispensation ot god to abraham and hi children through out their generations by the intent of providence as the immanent spirit of creation the child was begotten in a more than ordinary the falness the offspring of god the ideal of his soul the status of bis moral nature the poise of hta spirit wines these were higher and truer ther was a mighty drama planted in his soul the sun of eternity rose upon hie boyhood vision to him and to him alone in his day and genera alon it lighted up a moral world a of the eternally spotless and pure was the father but hrs children were tolling in the twilight of sin and wretchedness christ saw that the clouds of ignorance and nesa rose up and shut out the light and love af the father that WAS pouring in measureless effulgence upon a darkened intelligence in man in he mind of christ this diviner life first burst through the human barriers and like a flood tide tilled his soul it was his birth right to live and die upon amoral throne for every one that Is ushered into the life that animated him is king and priest aoto god what need to seek to uncover farther the processes proc esnes of human origin except for the purpose of carrying away the thought that truth and purity make all life in all its arid hidden ai holy the dew i nelleah as the driven us tacked ae the mure vault above we confuse aur thought with the aeise of oar own wretched sc lushness with the groveling of our own lives but god is not contaminated thereby in 1 we live move and have being bat we cannot boil bis hands or defile his garments he lives in all life extends through all extent spreads undivided operates unspent we know not and cannot know the secret of existence how the human life and the human agency has its roots in the divine energy but we know that it must be rooted in that which is eternally beyond our own sphere of consciousness As the christ life expanded it realized itself in the presence of the busy throng of tho world it interpreted all things from its own purity and inspiration it saw that god ws batler to his benighted children it proclaimed the thought as an everlasting gospel the business was not in relation to the revolutions and mechanism of the sun and moon and the starry host not in relation to the proper ties of matter not in relation to the things that make up science these belonged to the infinite power but the fathers business was in relation to his children the eons of men and to these christ came with the first thought of his 1 that they were all children of the same father he knew nothing else so great and true and to him the one thought would remove all mountains overcome all difficulties achieve all that appertained to human destiny Is it not the hardness of our hearts that forbids ua to see whose son he is and to lift ourselves into conscious kinship with him best assured that his thought and ills hope girt the universe of matter and mind ills word is the law of moral gravitation thrones shall crumble kingdoms shall be rent in twain nations shall rise and fall but the sea of human life with all its interests and institutions with all its turbulence of love and sorrow with all its knowledge for youth and age this restless swelling ocean with its every ebb and how is measuring and murmuring the words of christ they are the feed that ii grow ing the leaven that il the life more and more permeating the thought of the world and this because lie is preeminently the christ of god the one in whose full coming the world will have social renovation and universal brotherhood |
