appearance this afternoon when alie delegates to the third republican state convention filed to their seats in that commodious building the stage and building was handsomely decorated with flags bunting and flowers the bobea and galleries were well filled with representative men from various parts of the state and when edgar wilsonn chairman of the state committee advanced to the front of the biage and rapped the convention to order at p m he was greeted with loud and prolonged applause from an enthusiastic audience in his opening remarks wilson congratulated the convention on the favorable auspices under which they assembled they would nominate a ticket which would be elected the populists had made a failure everywhere they had been entrusted with power and the people of idaho would not endorse their vagaries ben E rich was nominated for temporary chairman and the convention was asked to support him as the representative of votes that would be cast for the first time in idaho this year J richards of canyon county was placed in nomination and rich was elected when introduced he made an eloquent speech in which he said the mormon people did not ask for representation resen tation on the state ticket but it was hardly necessary to state how they would vote when it is known they were matured in the cradle of protection to home industries james II 11 gwynn of canyon county was selected temporary secretary A committee of one from each county was appointed on credentials permanent organization order of business and resolutions A letter was received from senator platform on which victory would perch upon the republican banners was the free coinage of silver at the ratio of 16 to 1 and protection to home industries the convention then took a recess till 10 turbulent affair in addition to a close division on weaver silver was a great source of discord when the majority report was submitted in favor of the free coinage of silver at 16 to I 1 the silver delegates got together and the whooping was so continuous that ou report was presented that the difficulty and tta treat ment of the anti silver men was so fair as they claimed they would withdraw
