Show LATE unpleasantness 1 effect of the strike are felt by the southern pacific trains west only 1 tha amr aline excursion will probably bo in from all reports the local strike situation haa taken a slight change for the worse it ie reported that atie passenger trains which left hero friday evening tied up at keno if this is true the situation la most unfortunate the one thing the delayed passengers were thankful for wae because they were tied up in ogden instead of being stranded on one of the nevada deserts most pt the passengers had some misgivings about going out on the first train for the west but the opportunity was not to be lost all took passage friday evening now the worst baa occurred they are all taking another unsought vacation at reno the southern pacific train schedule to reach here from san francisco this morning is reported indefinitely late it is probably keeping the other trains company at reno chis morning orders received for the company of the sixteenth regiment which was yet remaining here to proceed to reno to clear the road the leport of possible trouble along ahe road in nevada has caused a ripple on the almost olacia expanse of public interest and it is occasionally whispered that the strike is not settled yet report had it that two southern pacific trains had arrived from california one last night and one this morning this is not the case no passenger train sive the special which brought superintendent knapp back yesterday has come in from the west provided the train now en route for ogden gets through reno all right it will arrive here some time this evening it is now assured that the southern pacific will succeed in getting to passenger trains through to ogden this evening one from rockland which has been tied ap since the strike and the other a through train from san francisco it is supposed the teachers who left on their excursion june will return on this train between carlin and truckee there are twentythree twenty three engines disabled ane engines which went out on the train carrying the troops were aeed to pull the train the entire length of the line from ogden to san francisco it is still necessary to guard the railroad property through the nevada division as signs of fresh trouble are continually in sight the southern have sent to chicago to get a large number of men to take the places of employed emp loyes who struck it is probable that but a very few if any of the A R U men will be again taken into the service of the company the aggregate of the southern pacific expenses for boarding passengers alone during the late will reach about 2000 it has developed that the southern pacific trains which left hero friday evening were not tied up hi nevada but are running along without in the day time no effort being made to run at night |
