yesterday sacramento cal july 4 throughout the day the most intense excitement has prevailed here tho celebration of the nations natal day was completely overshadowed by the stirring event s arising from the desperate between the southern pacific and american railway union at 10 this morning two regiments of state militia from san francisco and two companies irom marched into the city they had abandoned the train two miles out the troops marched direct to the armor around which the local militia companies had established a strook guard soon after the troops had breakfasted the city became wildly excited over the reports that beveral men bad been shot many strikers were wild with rage it transpired that the shooting was accidental during drill a militiaman from san francisco dropped his rifle which was discharged the bullet passed through the leg of one of the comrades and struck a city wing in the abdomen anor tilly wounding him only a few minutes afterward when the troops bad been drawn up and were executing the order to load another youth accidentally discharged his and tore the sleeve from the uniform of a comrade at 1 the troops moved toward tabe depot where a large force of police deputy sheriffs and deputies under united states marshal baldwin were already on guard the strikers and to the number of several thousand had preceded the troops the appearance of the militia
